Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake features the return of Finn and Jake. However, we know that Jake passed away thanks to the Adventure Time: Distant Lands specials “Obsidian” and “Together Again”. Is Jake really still alive in Max’s Fionna and Cake series, or is something else going on here?

They came back to life
This is probably going to be a hot take. I understand its entirely plausible Jake never died but to me it feels like it would be bad story writing. The implications, in my opinion anyway, seem very strong, and it creates a very emotional plot point to their overall stories together. one I greatly appreciate. Dont get me wrong i love Jake and I want to see more of him, ill be happy to see more of him regardless but I prefer if this one was from a different universe than Finn.

I still find it odd how Finn is all grown up yet Jake looks exactly the same. I know Jake is a dog (a magic dog at that) but they could’ve at least done something like make his fur look more scraggly or give him small wrinkles under his eyes
You can actually see the Jake tattoo under Finn's beard if you look closely.
I mean honestly I just think that Finn’s tattoo is just there because jake is his brother, brotherly bond (jake probably didn’t appear in obsidian because he wanted browyn to have a adventure without himself.)
Just wanted to clarify that this is my head cannon until I am proven wrong, not enforcing it at all.
While it's based on Multiverses, what about TIMELINES? Think of Sonic Generations as an example, maybe Finn was sent to a time before the inevitable loss of his best friend? I can support this by the fact Jake looks LITERALLY NO DIFFERENT.

I think this will be like marvel where there is one universe where someone is missing so hear me out that Jake is from a universe where Finn died so maybe some extra lore is gonna be put in or something and then boom Jake meets oldie Finn and canon event they are together again again.

i think they are different versions of our finn and jake. When we see finn with bronwyn his tattoo of jake had blue flowers but this beefy finn has pink flowers. but since pink flower finn’s jake is still alive we can guess blue flower finn’s jake is also still alive and the reason of the tattoo is just to remember jake after he stopped adventuring as much
My opinion is that it might not be our Jake, but it might be our Finn. Two versions from alternate universes working together. Finn's way to see Jake again. I mean, come on. In which universe would Finn get that tattoo BEFORE Jake passed?

my theory the second i saw that clip was "oh so this is right before jake dies, and after he does finn stops advanturing and muscles down"

Actually if you remember at the end actor de defeated new death then decided to go back to the living World Jake was gonna go back to hell but then he decided to actually go back to the living world with Finn
I guess it wouldn't be a surprised to see this new crossover and this time Fionna and Cake are the main characters and of course our legends like Finn and Jake are back as well
me, personally, think that jake hasnt died YET because adventure time only canonically shown finn older twice before, with plot relevance, so, my theory, is that when finn makes a cameo in the dance party, he’s older, although it doesnt really hold up, maybe finn just lost the muscle and arm :/
