The Third Psalm – Classical Orchestra ( MuseScore 4 )

I don’t even remember how I came across this Psalm. All I know is that when I read it, its brave nature really struck me.

Psalm 3, possibly written by King David (I can’t confirm that) during his son Absalom’s rebellion, portrays David’s anguish and trust in God. David feels surrounded by enemies who doubt that God will save him. However, he recognizes that God is his shield and the one who sustains him. David cries out to God, who answers from his holy mountain. Even in the midst of attacks from countless enemies, David does not fear, because he trusts in God’s protection. He prays that God will defeat his enemies and harm them. David trusts that deliverance comes from the Lord and asks that his blessing be upon his people.

The composition doesn’t portray the events themselves, but offers an overview of the themes addressed in the psalm. I chose to create this piece for orchestra, and the time is quite limited compared to my other compositions, as I don’t know how I could extend it. The verses form a direct and objective text, reflecting the same objectivity in my piece:

“Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’”

“But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”

“I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.”

“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.”

“I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.”

“Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.”

“From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.”

(Made with MuseScore 4; the timbre is from… “every MuseSound thing”; I’m not a professional, but I’m a passionate one).
