'It is a bit ridiculous': Transport chaos for Sydney commuters

Thousands of Sydney commuters are experiencing travel chaos today as rail and bus workers walk off the job.

Even those who planned ahead have been unable to escape the mayhem.

Rail workers are taking industrial action for 24 hours by refusing the operate foreign-made trains, which has reduced services to 30 per cent, meaning passengers have to wait at least 30 minutes between services.

It’s left many frustrated with the situation, with a commuter saying it was a bit “ridiculous”.

At the same time, more than 1,000 bus drivers are taking part in stoppages between 4am-7am and 2:30pm-5:30pm.

The bus strike is over pay and working conditions.

  1. Isn't one of the goals of the government to get people out of cars and onto public transport for climate change. Doesn't look like that plan is going well. I think I'll stay with my car which is reliable transport.

  2. This is why electric cars make sense for inner city people, but not regional people. Public transport is always vulnerable to industrial action, shutdowns due to disease outbreaks, or even terrorist attacks as they are a very soft target with a lot of people in one spot. The sooner Tesla can have their smart taxis and people can just hail one with their phone and keep it so long as they have credit the better, more like instant hire car with very flexible terms and perhaps even an auction like responsive pricing system, unless you pay more than the average hourly rate to lock in that fixed rate for a longer period. However if you are over 20 km or so from a big city a turbo diesel SUV or twin cab is still the most practical choice and I hope government policy is sane enough to recognise that.

  3. So the climate extremists get arrested and threatened with months in prison and $22000 fines for one instance of shutting down one rail line for an hour, and rightly so. But the union thugs get to shutdown half the city for half the day day-after-day and nothing is done to them! All for utterly ridiculous demands, like refusing to drive foreign-built trains. Do they also refuse to drive their own cars that are foreign-built? No, because that would be inconvenient. But they are quite happy to fuck over the city and have extra days off to suit themselves. UNION SCUM!

  4. Well I thought I would never vote Liberals, Labor or Greens again cause they all supported the vaccine mandates. Now i see Labor and the transport unions collaborating to try and take down the state government, may vote Liberal again
