EPCOT Construction Updates, Avengers Campus Paris and a Discussion of Disney's Q2 Earnings!

The Parks Division made money last quarter for Disney, but at what cost to the guests, and what other impact does that have on your experience? We discuss it tonight.

Each week, we cover the top stories in Disney Parks news and discuss the topics that are top of mind for the Disney community.

Join us for another episode of ParksCenter!

This week, Disney released their Q2 earnings for the company as well as for the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products division. While they are showing a profit and an increase in revenue, it looks like it’s thanks to increased pricing, extra paywalls such as Genie+, and more expenses for the average park guest. What’s next and what does this mean for the future of the parks and the company CEO?

Then, in parks news, we go around the hub and discuss many updates from Walt Disney World including more progress across EPCOT, Hotel refurbishments announced, and more exciting this happening with Tron Lightcycle Run!

Also, several bizarre things were reported out of Florida parks this week including an illegal taxi service, a guest trying to bring Meth into the park, a guest arrested stealing from strollers, and another fight on the ferry.

Finally, we take a peek at Avengers Campus in Paris as it comes closer to opening this summer.

  1. Glad to see that Matt has some semblance of FP&A, treasury and taxation – fact is Disney is (unfortunately) NOT liquid enough for these pie in the sky projects, and worse, their bond rating continues to decrease resulting in an inaccessibility to cheap credit 😬

  4. We all suffer from the equivalent of Stockholm syndrome. Disney increasingly abuses us as guests, and we continually go back for more. Thank you sir, may I have another.

  5. It’s very simple, if Disney gets rid of their annual passes I’ll go to Universal and Seaworld I will not pay full price to go to Disney if they do that to their annual passholders

  6. "More favorable guests": it's unkind & discriminatory. What happened to every guest being treated like royalty?

Agree that prices get to a point that the magic disappears. My park visits spent more time reporting maintenance problems to supervisors or guest services (than actually enjoying the attractions) so, when prices started tripling on some food items, the magic disappeared.

I don't think there needs to be another park until they can adequately maintain their current parks.

  7. Why you doubt it have you seen how far it has proceeded they already testing it and it costs Money they haven´t or didn´t wanted to spend they even had to furlough people what wasn´t nice or okay why would they invest Money for that ride when there where issues that aren´t fully away so with the progress it mades could still open up on Oct 1st or late this year as long as the Railroad Train would be ready to go before that, it is sad how long it is out don´t like if I would miss it again this late Summer.

  8. So my family of four went to Disney back at end of Nov into dec, before the trip their was already a plan in place that we would be going back in 2025 with a bigger group. Would've stayed on property at a dvc. Now that plan has changed to two different trips.. universal next summer , then in 2025 going back to universal for opening of epix…with not a single day at disney planed…genie plus is terrible, took away magical express, nickel an dimin everywhere, an then possible might charge for mouse keeping ..before the pandemic when we had mouse keeping we would tip ever day to ensure that if it was a different person they would get something….yes guardians looks great tron looks cool but you have big ass grey boxes on the side of each one! When I go to Disney I don't expect the magic to be ruined.

  9. I'm not spending my time or money on my phone for any of the LL or Genie+. I go to the parks to avoid those things. I use my phone as a camera, not as a life planner, even IRL. I see Universal in my future. Instead of as a side trip, it will be a primary destination. Why is the park, having been closed, the guests and future guests responsibility? Having every aspect have a price increase, reservation, and constant construction has really brought the park and value down in my pocket.

  10. In 2023 the pent-up demand from Covid will disappear. There is a strong likelihood of a recession in the United States and Europe. By 2023 they will have to offer real discount packages.

  11. Hi guys how are you guys ??!! here’s my take since I observe my speculation here’s my take I believe current status for Hong Kong and Paris are already completed with the attractions projects they just need to double check and reconstruct parts of the area.Regarding the Quinjet e ticket attraction since D23 will happen this year in September 2022 it’s a very high possibility that we’ll be hearing great news about the new avengers campus phase 2 Quinjet attraction of avengers campus.Honestly the concept that I saw before is similar to Harry Potter forbidden journey and flight of passage ride system simulation which I would love to see.If they are currently working on the project right now they’ll update and share more details and info at the d23 convention.I envision as well that it’s a possibility that they’ll start constructing the attraction by 2023 and will open in 2024 since it’s a one building ride.Eventually, i think marvel studios itself should donate and give funds about a million or above since to the Disney imagineers and Disneyland park independently since movies and series right now are doing very well and great in the box office so the project of the Quinjet attraction will be built quickly as possible that’s just my thoughts and ideas I want to share out to you guys. What are your thoughts on my ideas ??

I just want to additional provide side information they’re secretly working on it right now but when the right time comes they’ll provide every details and information they have been taking commission on in the past years. By next year i visual that they’ll begin doing some ground work construction behind guardians and a year after 2023 it will most likely open in the spring or summer of 2024 that’s my take I could be wrong but my first valid thought and ideas is at the d23 Disney parks panel they’re going to share information what Disney imagineers have been working on in the past years and I doubt it’s gonna be delay since it’s a one project attraction and there is so many Walt Disney imagineers branches around the world Again I highly doubt the high anticipated e ticket Quinjet attraction will take very long to develop since it’s a one project attraction and one building ride it’s not like they’re going to park expand and stretch out the area more behind guardians of the galaxy ride due to the shortage space and capacity. But the project will take time which I completely understand and see but it shouldn’t be like a decade or a several year attraction to come since avengers campus needs a main e ticket attraction as soon as possible for avengers campus especially it’s just one building attraction that would take up about a year after 2023. I can’t wait to see and find out. In conclusion,I believe we will be getting more details at the d23 Disney parks panel and the process shouldn’t be longer than 6 years from now because it’s a one building attraction and they’re currently working on the project of the ride system and storyline itself. What are your thoughts on the status for the phase 2 one project e ticket attraction aka Quinjet ride
