  1. Nations with the most gracious and respectful fanbases whether they won or lost; 1. Ireland, 2. New Zealand, 3. South Africa….. South Africa used to have a toxic fanbase, but the leadership of Rassie, Nienaber, and Siya set such a great example, and the fans followed suit.

  2. I think there are two fundamental issues with this loss that are interlinked.

    1. SA did not field a dedicated and consistent goal kicker. You can get away with part-timers in easy pool games, but when you face quality opposition, those missed 6 points will come back to haunt you. While Libock is a decent tactical kicker, he is not a consistent goal kicker and is a bit of a luxury. Faf is ok, but also not there to kick goals. Surely there are a number of dedicated goal kickers at provincial level that would have been a better option?

    2. Related to #1. They did not pick a consistent kicker and picked a bomb squad on the bench but did not use them properly. If you know you have an inconsistent kicker and essentially 2 packs in the game, then why kick for posts, rather always kick for the corner and use the pack to score tries? Play to your strengths and team selection.

While the bomb squad can be good, realistically it is only going to help in the last 25 min of a game when the opposition pack is tired. To get best use of it, the whole game plan should aimed at tiring out the opposition pack as soon as possible by opting for scrums and mauls wherever possible.

Our back line was also looking very lackluster. Very little pushing over the advantage line; desperate offloads that went nowhere; and no creative running. The ball was just shepherded sideways. The Irish looked far more deadly with ball in hand. Our backline need front foot ball from a scum or they go nowhere.

In looking at the table, you could almost argue that this loss is strategic as it gives SA an easier opponent at the knock out stage. It is unlikely NZ will roll over against us twice in a row, so we need someone else to knock them out. France are also hurting with lost key players and should be an achievable win for SA.

If we play our bomb squad right, there is no reason why we cannot steamroll the Irish in a rematch. Forget kicking for posts until we get Pollard back or someone else in that caliber.

  3. This walking around the kicker issue is bullshit!!!!
If we choose Libok again we out.
Pressure on Pollard to come and kick well.
Team sport i agree but there is only 1 person kicking at polls!!!!!
    Stop the bullshit!!!!

  4. Well done Ireland, it was a tough but well-deserved win. For the Bokke, we love and support you regardless, no matter the result. We are with you. This is one game, not the end of the tournament. Best of luck and sterkte manne ! 🇿🇦
