would love to a have a harness like that when I auto cross in the impala, but I can't really throw in a roll bar since passengers sit in the rear and it's pretty much a stock car

Is your car bouncing rev limiter on the 2-3 shift, it sounds like it. If that's the case I would look into rebuilding the 4L60
