  1. I think NK offered the autopsy and thats why the family refused? But his family probably mistook the physical changes from him being in a coma, as physical ab*se. Him not being able to move or eat would result in his muscles becoming atrophied, he'd look gaunt, almost skin and bones, which would explain the 'his arms look twisted' comment. That's also why his gums deteriorated.

Edit: went back and watched, North Korea offered to do the autopsy if they'd send him back, that's why they refused.

  2. 58:56 eta: i agree, the gentle placing of the poster always looked sus to me. An american wouldve just folded it up and shoved it down his pants or something.
I love how you're like a one-stop-shop of sorts. BTS & the few other kpop groups I like? Check. Murder shows? Check. Stephanie Soo? Yup. North Korea? Uh huh. My favorite reactor checking out a big portion of my special interests? I love it.

You're entertaining, thoughtful, intelligent, interesting, and even wise. You've become my favorite channel & I get really stoked when I get your notifications. Idk if you'll read this, but your commentary & charisma can always make me smile and cheer me up.

So thank you. Making me smile isn't always easy (my husband of 30 years died, it was 3 years ago on Jan 1st so I'm just starting my 3rd year alone, and grief lingers as I'm sure you know) but somehow you manage to do it. So gamsahabnida & borahae! 💜

Eta: 13:26 a part of me wants to visit, except I'd be too scared plus as an American there's no way. I'd want a passport from a different country if I went (which I won't obvs lol). If you're an American or a journalist, most people hide those facts if they visit. You're watched 24/7, the rooms are bugged, you have to have a handler, and you can only see what they want you to see. Mostly only Pyongyang. You aren't allowed to even fold a newspaper if any of the 3 north Korean leaders are on it, & you can't take photos of soldiers. The main reason I wouldn't go is because I don't want to give any $ to help their economy, since zero goes to the people and it all goes to Kim jong un or towards nukes.
36:36 they don't even have anesthesia in NK. If you get surgery you won't be knocked out. They lack everything over there. (According to NK defectors)
39:41 actually, at one time Kim jong un invited performers from SK to visit & perform for him and the elite of NK. 1 of the groups to go was kpop girl group red velvet. Kim jong un seemed to take a liking to Irene. You can see videos of the performance on YouTube & it's wild. You've seen how people/ARMY react to BTS live at concerts and awards. It was so quiet & eerie . If you want to see what a NK girl group looks like they're called Moranbong. The differences are wild.
1:27:38 they're Jewish. While an autopsy isn't expressly forbidden, Jews aren't allowed to mutilate their bodies even after death, so depending on how the Jewish person interprets that, then it could be forbidden, to them. Many others refuse autopsies as well. Idc how religious I was, if that was done to my kid I'd have to know

  3. I think its normal to feel curious and tempting to go to North Korea because I feel the same too, I want to know how they live and whatever mysterious that they didn't show in media etc. but TO ACTUALLY GOING THERE is a NO. 😅

  4. "Stains? 🤨" 😂 I watched that VICE piece w/ the North Korean labor camps in Russia that she mentioned. Crazy! I also watched the vid on Asian Boss w/ the ex-spy who talked about Otto. The ex-spy is 1 of the ppl in the Asian Boss interview vid you watched w/ North Korea escapees a while back.
If you want to keep on looking into North Korea, a history of the regime would be a good thing (how it all started). VICE has some decent stuff as well, but they're older. Their journalists went into the country. I always thought that this story would be the final thing that stops you from even considering visiting foreal foreal. Because phew, you were scaring us.
