I always play with seasons on. And always make use of cover crops. I never use direct drills either. Why are you so scared to use a cultivator ? It’s very speedy

I think you should buy a bigger header for the combine and just either charge the guy you're renting the combine from or not charge yourself for renting until the header is paid back
You could have taken the fertilizer out before seeding over the cover crop and let the cover crop be the second application. You rendered your cover crop useless by using fertilizer both times.
Cover crop + main crop with fertilizer seems to be way easier than using sprayers or spreaders to get the second fertilizer coverage, and needing to spray/spread takes more time than planting a cover crop anyway.

Why give fertilizer too the covercrop that saves nothing
Your combine needs repairing!! In it's current state it's costing you yield every time you use it. I would have thought for your 1,000 rental fee each time the owner should be keeping it in top condition for you!

to buy combine ?
This series is crying out for a small horse stable or a very small pig enclosure. Just something that'll take up alot of time and effort

Now you should sell that field and buy a combine.
That combine is going to cost you money if you let the state of disrepair get any worse! Might as well take it in and get it repaired so the previous owner can have it back in good working order and condition. You didn't think they'd want a run-down combine that was in a sorry state, did you? They might charge you more than it's worth to keep playing this map!
It was fine to use fertilizer while planting the cover crop. You messed up by not taking it out when planting the barley. And now with the second field, you did it opposite. So when you plant the next crop you will need to fertilize.
the fert with the cover crop gives first application then when you plant over the cover crop it gives the second which is perfect, you just have to make sure you dont have fert in the seeder on round 2.
