The concept for a weapon system known as Project Thor was to launch tungsten-based kinetic projectiles the size of telephone poles from Earth’s orbit to cause damage to targets on the ground. The goal of the project is to directly launch a massive tungsten rod from space. The “rod from God” weapon has a diameter of 1 foot and a length of 20 feet, and it has the impact force of a nuclear bomb without the radioactive fallout.
