Irrational Exuberance? Nothing Powell said was anything really newsworthy, it sounded like a carbon copy of his last remarks. The market supposedly had already priced in a 50 basis point hike in December. He still cautioned that monetary policy is likely to stay restrictive for some time until real signs of progress emerge on inflation. "We have a long way to go in restoring price stability" he said. "We will stay the course until the job is done," he said. How is this anything new? It seems like the market only (over) reacted to the top line of his remarks and just ignored the rest.
