A bow and arrow would definately not be an easier weapon for a child to use as it takes strength to pull the string and stamina to hold the strong till you've aimed. Now range strategies are better for children as direct interaction is avoided. I would've had traps and snares as the choice for children and if weapons are to be chosen, crossbows might be reasonable though it could also be said that crossbows might not have been developed yet and may be expensive so maybe a sling with stones for a child. Aside from range weapons, there are pole arms like spears that extend your melee range and may be more useful in poking beasts and monsters away. There's a reason why a long pointy stick was humanity's first weapon.
At this point, we need an isekai for Truck-kun. Reincarnated in another world as a pick-up truck. They've already done it with a vending machine, why not as a vehicle?
