Our hearts broke into pieces as we laid eyes on Menudo’s broken and scarred body. His eyes plead with us, hoping that this was finally the moment he was going to be rescued from this nightmare he was living in.
Menudo was first discovered wandering the streets of Houston in the unbearable Texas heat. His fur was matted beyond belief while his face has been stripped of it. It almost seemed as if he may have been burned by something or someone. He shook with every step he took as the pain from the open wounds was relentless. We are in shock that he survived as long as he did all alone in this dangerous world.
Once in our care we were able to get a better look at his current condition. His body is extremely emaciated and he had been living off of eating whatever trash/food he could find out on the streets. His nails were overgrown and deformed and had to be causing him extreme discomfort. We could see it in his eyes that he finally realized he was safe with us and that he would never experience this kind of pain again.
The journey to health for Menudo is going to be a long one. We need to provide extensive medical care, medication, vaccinations, and various treatments to transform this sweet boy.
