  1. You´ve just stumbled on another masterpiece, if you ask me! Love to see you find these – this song, and lyrics are truly amazing!! Just the right amount of feel, great melodies, The Edge adds his beautiful guitar… Where the lyrics still get to lead. And the lyrics can be applicable in many life situations! Me for sure, can certainly recognize a lot…

I also really appreciate your comments! Spot on! 😍😍

  2. I think you guys nailed it about both what the song and what U2 are pretty much about. Almost all their songs are about emotions and feelings that we experience overall. The desire or longing for love, faith and acceptance show up in several songs. All part of being human. Some of their songs can also be political based as well. New Years day and Pride are some more worth checking out.

  3. I think that the words ballad and mellow are weak terms to describe U2's music. I believe that they are hard to categorize because their sound is so unique and think many of their songs have a more modern spiritual tone to them. In fact, most agree that their sound can be found in most modern Christian worship music today. The band members grew up during the time of fighting between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland and this had a profound influence in their music. I remember how heart breaking it was during that decade when more than 3,500 people died during those troubled times.

  4. Live Aid 1985, a little known alt band from Ireland took the stage at 11 am , of a 12 hour concert, Broadcast worldwide satellite. The band was U2. THIE PERFORMANCE OF " BAD"…is the second most iconic performance next to Queen's set six hours later. It catapulted U2 into the mainstream and worldwide fame. Please react to this iconic performance.

  5. Great song by U2 and covered by many other artists including Johnny Cash, Eddie Vedder, Mica Paris, Mary J Blige ( with U2), Chris Cornell, and my favorite (besides U2) is Joe Cocker.

  6. Appreciate your reaction to this song, but you're expectation/classification of the U2 sound is WAY off the mark. They do create amazing ballads and exhirlarating anthems, but started as (and still are) a heavy guitar and drum-driven band. Not metal or hard rock (and certainly not bubble gum pop). U2 came out of the 1980's post-punk explosion of bands who created a darker, moodier soundscape (and explored the darker parts of the human experience), with strong, upfront drumming, swirling, ringing guitars and angular, sometimes dissonant riffs. Peers included Joy Division, Psychedelic Furs, Gang of Four, The Buzzcocks, Echo & The Bunnymen,The Cure, The Pretenders, The Jam, Talking Heads, etc.) To get a real read on the band's roots and develpment you've got to listen to their debut album, Boy, then their huge breakthrough album, The Joshua Tree, and finally their 1991 masterpiece, Achtung Baby (which is the album "One" comes from). It's a journey worth taking.

  7. While I this is one of my favorite songs of theirs, I still don't think this is indicative of U2's overall style and their "sound". Check out their first hit "Sunday Bloody Sunday" for their roots or my favorite song "Please" for their some of their more edgy style.

  8. One of the most requested songs at Weddings. Bono has said, it's the worst song for a wedding! It's a song about a son dying from AIDS and his father who is embarrassed about this, but as the father dies, he starts to understand his son. It's a deathbed conversation between father and son.

  9. Until the End of the World is another great one, but be sure to watch the live version from the Zoo TV tour on their channel. It's better than the studio version. Likewise Exit/Gloria from the Rattle and Hum live performance is also incredible. Some of their songs are far better live and those two are definitely two of those. They are incredible live. If you go back much earlier in their timeline to the early 80's, An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart live at Red Rocks 1983 is amazing. Actually many of their performances from that concert can be found and just shine 🥰

  10. Their style was rock in the 1980s, almost punk-like in attitude. They were certainly at their absolute best in the '80s. New Year's Day is a hard driving philosophical song and probably my favourite of theirs off the epic War album, which also has the classic political Sunday, Bloody Sunday. Pride (in the Name of Love) is another classic about Martin Luther King Jr. The Joshua Tree is their crowning achievement. The entire Side 1 is amazing and so is much of Side 2. Bullet the Blue Sky is a cynical look at capitalism especially in America. With or Without You is a heartbreaking song with what I believe are Bono's best vocals. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is very spiritual and beautiful while Where the Street Have No Name was another big hit off the LP. Red Hill Mining is a favourite of mine but gets little airplay for some inexplicable reason. Listen to When Love Comes to Town, a duet with blues guitar legend B.B. King.
