  1. Headcanon: tapes are a thing in Elden Ring (Make your statement… Face your fears…)

This is being awesome! I've put some 90 hours in the game so far and still have not finished it.
So a few things. I'll go with the mechanical first and then with some potentially spoilery stuff (hopefully not) at the end (all properly marked of course).

    Mechanical stuff:
-To summon ashes you need a bell item.
    – Ashes are summonable (is that a word?) when a white door icon appears on the bottom left of the screen (generally in boss arenas, ruins encounters and mobs… But not always).
    – On horseback L1 and L2 allows you to attack on the left side.

    – You've been heavy rolling for a while now… Consider sticking with a single weapon loadout (but feel free to try stuff).

Now to the potentially spoilery stuff:

    – There is a missable encounter on the church with the merchant NPC at night.
    – As far as I know, all ruins have a cellar with some potential goodies (and fun stuff). Some of the cellars/basements might be hidden. It is almost always worth exploring ruins, if anything for the treasure that awaits…
    – At sites of grace, it might be worth sitting down. Sometimes you're presented with the option to talk with Melina, those are very missable.
    – Some specific voices come from places that require some rolling.
    – Magic can be very fun, there are some weapons with magic or faith scaling that are very unique and worth experimenting with…

    – there is a very … beginner friendly? low-level requirement area to the far south, across a bridge that might give a micro taste of everything that the rest of the game has to offer.

Dan, this game is not just big…. it's BIG! Big as in you just scratched the air above the droplet falling into an ocean big. There is an area accessible only through a hidden area inside a hidden area within another hidden area…. Don't worry about missing stuff. There is way too much to feel you missed anything.

  2. Things like the Wandering Noble Ashes or the good Jellyfish friend require a specific item to utilize. You'll have to find that first. I know of at least 2 NPCs who you can acquire it from, but I won't give spoilers unless specifically asked by the channel in comments.

  3. A tip for Dans. If you decide to pursue magic you should focus on faith. Faith has a big range of interesting abilities where as sorceries basically just have fifty different ways to shoot lazers. Also something that took me a while to realize is when you activate a grace you will revive there even if you don't rest at it.

  4. You didn't read the messages by that tortoise. You're missing the best meme of Elden Ring so far!

I love how you're using that classic mounted combat technique of "come to a dead stop next to a dude and then swing at him."

  5. A few things I've noticed with ground messages:
Messages in dungeons are generally useful to the point of over-explaining, you'll probably find out where every trap and ambush is. Check them if you have trouble with a certain stretch.
Messages leading up to a boss room will usually have rather useful tips to counter the boss. Whether it's weak to fire, stagger, etc. and sometimes a very dangerous move to watch out for.
Messages in the open world are usually fluff. If they're oriented 90 degrees on a straight path, there's a good chance they're pointing out a cave.
Messages against walls are almost always "secret wall ahead." and they're always wrong. Always.
    Everything is a dog.

  6. On how Multiplayer works:

As you discovered you can use a Furlcalling Finger remedy to reveal summon signs. Its effect will also prevent the use of spirit summons. If you die before actually summoning anyone or if you use the item again before summoning, it's effect will be canceled and the item refunded. Merely using one will not open you up to invasions from other players, however summoning another player will. Additionally there is an item you've yet to discover that is similar to the dried fingers in DS3 which will essentially increases the number of invaders you can have in your world by one (so from 0 to 1 in single player, or 1 to 2 in co-op) and lowers the invasion cooldown.

As for how leaving your sign and summoning pools work, the Tarnished's Furled Finger is essentially identical to the good ol' White Sign Soapstone, and there's of course one identical to the Red Sign Soapstone you might procure on your journey as well. Alternatively, you can use the Small Golden Effigy to send your sign to multiple nearby summoning pool statues, but only one's you've activated. You do not, however, need to activate the pool in order to see other people's signs appear there.

Just as in DS3 you have the ability to set a multiplayer password, allowing only for summon signs of people with the same set password to appear. This is separate from the new group password system, which simply increases the likelihood of seeing messages, bloodstains, and ghosts of other players with the group password, as well as displaying a generic message when a group member has beaten a major boss, which seems to possibly give other group members a small buff to rune gain temporarily.
