  1. Good days play. Saw some primo performances from Wood and Marsh. Anytime u make a ton and take a wicket on the day is big.

What i'm seeing is the what the world is seeing. You cannot miss it. The obvious difference in class between w/keepers. Carey is having a superb series and making a massive difference that England are simply not willing to even try to match. Its what happens when you play a great w/keeper/the correct w/keeper….noone even cares how many runs he's made as long as it is SOME. Even though it is still more than Johnny has made, it doesnt really matter. Try to imagine if Smith went on to make a ton today…V V Lucky.

  2. Should of put Foakes behind stumps, and not played Moen. I would think that Foakes is a better batsman than Moen nowadays at Test level. I saw some really solid performances with bat in the last year from Foakes, and Moen never really cracked it for me with the bat in Tests, and he's been retired, so off the pace anyways. I believe Foakes' average is 32, and Moen 28. Is the problem that they don't back Foakes in English conditions? I understand the need for a spinner, but Root can do a job.

  3. Bairstow isn’t good enough with the bat to make up for how poor of a keeper he is. He needs to be Smith or at least Root with the bat to justify it. Poms are 2-0 up if foakes plays

  4. Aside from Wood's spell, Mitch Marsh's blistering century had the most profound impact on day one of this match. But not even one mention of it. Poor form George. I like your segments but at least you could have balanced this a bit.

  5. You are seriously out of order for saying Harold Larwood bowled at Dominic Cork’s pace. Don’t be so disrespectful towards a great England bowler who won the Ashes for England and went through hell both doing it and from the fall-out afterwards. You’ve gone down in my estimation for that crass remark. You’re supposed to know something about the game. If Larwood bowled at Cork’s pace then where does that put Bradman. Are you saying he was nothing more than an average county standard batsman. Words fail me because I would like to use stronger ones. With comments like that you write off history and this great game. You denigrate Larwood and lessen the abilities of Bradman, McCabe and great English players from that era such as Hobbs, Sutcliffe and Hammond.
Larwood was rapid and bowled brilliantly for many years in England and on two Ashes tours to Australia. Shame on you.

  6. Far too much naval gazing Gorgeous George. Seek explanations rather than justifications. At the sunset, it may prove that Root lost the Ashes. If not him, then there are at least half a dozen other players and reasons why they lost.
Woods was bloody fantastic. I fear for his future as his exertions are likely to give him early retirement.
    Marsh. Exceptional bazzball.
Root – pathetic and a liability anywhere near the wicket.
    Bairstow – the same.
Both sides even at end day one.
I predict any movement in the air or off the pitch will favour OZ heavily.
It was the lack of movement in the first two tests that had the teams appear at near parity.
Look! We're deep into the series now to draw conclusions.
Australia sent over a well drilled squadron of soldiers to fight on foreign soils. England gathered an array of willing volunteer golfing Morris dancers who run their mouths on loop in an attempt to qualify as entertainers for Cirque de Soleil.
England prepared by playing golf and not giving a flying fxxx about the results. They are entertainers.
Australia prepared by selecting soldiers, each specific to their talents and ideal position, in a squad developed into a strong unified fighting team, with the sole objective of winning the Ashes. They honed this preparation by winning the world championship of test cricket, where England were not even the adversary. The Australians did not prepare to play at Albert Hall. They are cricketers.
    We are indeed, entertained.
    Two – Zip.

  7. Seems to be a significant degree of stubbornness on England’s part which is costing them these Ashes at the moment… continually overlooking Foakes, Root’s unwillingness to front up at 3 despite being clearly the best option for that position, Stokes by all accounts also being unwilling to come up the order (surely he’d do a good job further up given his ability to absorb pressure and shift through the gears when the situation allows), instead they throw in Brook at 3.

  8. Frustrating how Bairstow pre injury was a reliable keeper. Not in Foakes league obviously. Poor decision in hindsight which i hope they rectify. However, they were never going to drop Crawley due to the sunk cost fallacy.
