Why Are Klingon Battleships so Insane? Feat: @scienceinsanity6927

Today we take a look at the design lineage of klingon Battleships. An Eclectic and often perplexing smorgasbord of design philosophies and concepts. in order to do so i am joined by @scienceinsanity6927 to show him the best… and the worst that the klingons have on offer…

  1. Where am I? How did i get here? This isn't my normal garbage dump, and this isn't the normal content slave i make videos with. Something is very wrong, I feel a sense of forthcoming respectable effort and high quality content.

    Help, I'm lost and afraid.

  2. The giant glowing torpedo flinging device right on the front of the ship would seem to me to be an attractive nuisance. I bet that's the first thing every shoots at when in battle with one of those monsters. Might they be better served by two less powerful but also less prominent weapons in place of that thing?

  3. Since the 90s I've been waiting for a Star Trek that follows a star fleet officer who is serving on a Klingon vessel. It just seems like endless possibilities for great writing are on offer with that concept.

  4. has there ever been an answer to why there were two different nacelles for the starfleet TOS ships? one minute they have bulbs on the back end and others have what looks like thrust holes on the back. just curious.

  5. Talking about the high speed, long range torpedo launcher, they would be hard to dodge. In current day, we have hypersonic (Mach 5+) misses being fired from beyond 100 miles, and are very hard to dodge. Longer range means an easier time tracking the target. Even fighter jets have a very hard time avoiding them.

  6. I beg to differ with your analysis of the B-10. That ship originated in Star Fleet Battles, a game I played for many years. Because of the particulars of the licensing, Star Fleet Battles exists in a vacuum from the rest of Trek lore and the B-10 was designed within that specific environment. It was not intended as a commerce raider. Only a complete chowderhead like Hitler would send such a massive investment of resources out to shoot up convoys. Bismarck was wasted. Tirpitz accomplished more by sitting in Norway and tying up the British Home Fleet. The B-10's were the ultimate warships for the in-game equivalent of the World Wars and were fleet flagships. Also, two B-10's was built. One was completed as a standard battleship and the second was converted into a carrier for starfighters while under construction. Both were completed too late to see action during "The General War" but saw action in later conflicts before being mothballed due to extreme costs and obsolescence. A third and fourth saw action while partially completed. Five more were initially planned but never built- one for trade to the Romulans (who were still close allies of the Klingons in the isolated environment of SFB) and four more even bigger and more powerful B-11's (think along the lines of the German H41, Japanese A-150 "Super Yamato," and American Montana-class battleships). Also, the Excelsior and trans-warp drive do not exist in SFB. Their license does not include anything from the movies or any series that came after TAS.

  7. The 2 bridges thing is actually a very common thing for large ships. All 4 Iowas had flag bridges per example. And in the Japanese fleet, the Captain used to go down with the ship, while the admiral transferred his flag to another ship. Also, Aircraft carriers usually have 3 bridges. One for the Admiral, one for ship operations and one for flight operations.

  8. Your right, the B-10 comes from Steven V. Cole's Starfleet Battles. It was designed to be very large and very ridiculous and over the top. Mr. Cole said that the B-10 had a Klingon Polo field among its recreational facilities. In SFB's lore, 4 B10s were completed.
