i’m gonna be discussing a film that doesn’t exist. there will be a lot of speculation about early vampire movies and their influence on the horror genre. this will be in relation to the one that the philippines lost. the first horror film made in the philippines by a filipino was “ang manananggal”. let’s think about what makes the monster unique. that’ll open our minds to what that movie (and thus, its influence) could have been. and finally, we should remember why this is the tragic case for early philippine cinema. i admit, this video indulges more in inquiry. afterwards, i will try to cover the transformation of the manananggal throughout philippine film history. knowing that will need some time, i’ve decided to embrace the irony and split this video into 2 parts hehe
hope this gets you feeling spooky. happy halloween !
