Web apps for everyone, everywhere: PWAs to the rescue of people in low-internet areas – Alicia Rojas

As technology continues to expand in our lives, we see a greater need for applications that provide functionality under different network conditions. PWAs are well-known for mixing the best of the native and web worlds into applications that provide reliable offline experiences and are easy to use and share.

In this session, you will learn how to take advantage of what PWAs offer to make your project suitable for people living in areas where internet access is intermittent. Most code samples belong to a case study of an application conceived for rural people living in areas lacking stable internet access, such as farmers, peasants, and agricultural technicians. We will cover exciting stuff such as browser support for PWA features essential for an offline experience, installability, offline CRUD actions with IndexedDB, and how to make updates readily available for our users.

You will get the most out of this session if you understand the basics of Service Workers, but it will be a beginner-friendly talk.
