  1. We have SO MANY nasty crimes against people to thank Rump for . . . Why aren't LAWS enacted to plug up all of these safety issues that result in environmental hazards? Safety shouldn't rely upon which President is making decent policy–or in Rump's case–undoing decent safety policies. We know the answers: The rich individuals and corporations DON'T WANT to pay for pesky health and safety measures that might cut into their "bottom line". Thus, their GQP flunkies in government make sure that improvements are not legislated. Simple.

  2. Not only a very good history lesson… It's a reminder that this is still going on. The Private Prison Industrial Complex, hand-in-hand with massive corporations, is getting labor at slave wages –> indentured servitude wages.

  3. I lived in Jackson Mississippi for a few years and can attest to the devoid or lack of concern for infrastructure in the Capital where most blacks live, the roads are raggedy the lighting in the city is dim. However, go just out side city to the surrounding counties, like Pearl, flowood and Madison county where infrastructure is thriving with new roads, business, etc. Lets not talk about gerrymandering, there is a pending a lawsuit outlining the disparity and blatant racism.

  4. And here we have people like the Governor in Florida who wants to erase this history Black History and replace it with His – story, or more of their story. ( To late ) . Also let us not forget the building of the White House . Black slaves used to work sun up till sun down to build the White House. Sad isn't !!!???

  5. To me, the story of John Henry was about how even a super-heroic human couldn't defeat the industrial revolution.
Now I'm sitting here and thinking it was a story about how slavery kills people and the machine-age had come to stop that from happening to any one else.
I used to love hearing the story and songs about John Henry.
Oh, well, so much for that.
John Henry was enslaved and did not work hard under his own free will because he was noble and superheroic. He wasn't even super-human. He was just a guy that was forced to try to out work industrial machinery for corporate overlords while he was dying as an incarcerated slave-laborer – after being a soldier that fought in a war against slavery. (Let me not digress about wage-slavery and people being pushed to their limits by corporate masters even to this day…)
The story of John Henry made me sad before.
Now, it makes me more sad as I'm told that John Henry didn't died while accomplishing a deed of great heroism like the runner at Marathon .

"The name Marathon[a] comes from the legend of Philippides (or Pheidippides), the Greek messenger. The legend states that, while he was taking part in the Battle of Marathon, which took place in August or September, 490 BC,[3] he witnessed a Persian vessel changing its course towards Athens as the battle was near a victorious end for the Greek army. He interpreted this as an attempt by the defeated Persians to rush into the city to claim a false victory or simply raid,[4] hence claiming their authority over Greek land. It is said that he ran the entire distance to Athens without stopping, discarding his weapons and even clothes to lose as much weight as possible, and burst into the assembly, exclaiming νενικήκαμεν (nenikēkamen, "we have won!"), before collapsing and dying." – wiki

  6. I guess it all depends on where the air is checked, because those control released gases could have seeped into the homes and saturated surfaces – like a couches, chairs or beds and bedding. After four years of Trump and all the republican lies and bs since, it’s definitely hard to trust the government – never mind believe them. Truth doesn’t exist in the US any more.

  7. Never heard about East Palestine but it was on my mom's birth certificate. She never knew it either. She was 3rd youngest of 10. They were probably there because of the railroad. They were poorer than dirt.

  8. I'll bet it's not safe in that rural town in Ohio!!!! Give it a few years and there will be a class action lawsuit. That train derailment lead to the release of toxins that have contaminated that poor town. God bless them.

  9. This is an important lesson. If it doesn't make you sick, YOU ARE sick. What's even worse, is that the young in Florida, and soon to be more states, will not be able to learn and know about this. Thank you, Joy, for doing what those teachers are being stopped from doing, under penalty of felony and certain loss of a job. Love you, Joy.
PS. I don't usually want children on the internet constantly, but let the flood gates open for this experience!

  10. Once again, Trump rolled back Obama's safety regulations and it caused catastrophic danger and harm to us and our environment. Trump, got rid of the safety regulations, just like he did with COVID-19 the Obama PPE instructions.

  12. Thank you Joy 4 sharing what is going on in Jackson Mississippi! No share MORE details! Follow up, follow up, follow up!! The National Guard is the only solution…unless the DOJ is already about to bring REAL FEDERAL CHARGES for fraud, embezzlement. There is so much public information how are the Black residents of Mississippi being subject to threats to sue. Again, thank you Joy. The entire episode was powerful.

  16. Thanks for the John Henry story. It brought back old memories. As late as the mid 60s where i was a kid in South Carolina, it was an open secret that if a local farmer or business needed some cheap extra help, they could go to the sheriff and he would round up some black "bucks" and lease them out.

  17. Considering the Country elected Donald Trump, it appears true that the electorate is too stupid to elect a qualified leader and might have done better just appointing someone to the job.

  18. I am quite sure these people will vote Trump and Republicans, while they blame Presidents Obama and Biden, and the Democrats for this train disaster, but it’s the RapepubliKKKlans who are putting people’s lives in danger and peril, with their bragging about cutting regulations and letting corporations do as they please.
