Was Abraham Lincoln's Assassination Planned in Canada?

Six months before assassinating Abraham Lincoln in April 1865, John Wilkes Booth was seen meeting with Confederate agents at Montreal’s stylish St Lawrence Hall Hotel and angrily denigrating the US President, loudly suggesting Lincoln didn’t have long to live. Booth was also spotted at a Montreal bank that was known to have connections with the Confederate Government; when he was finally captured in Virginia after killing Lincoln, he had a cheque from the same bank in his pocket, fuelling chatter that Canada was involved in the murder. Nearly 160 years later, the question remains: what really happened in Montreal?
