This episode was recorded before the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
In this episode, LSE (London School of Economics) take on University College, Oxford for a place in the second round.
Jeremy Paxman asks the questions.
Wallop, you are a bladdy joker. Is the teacher your wife for you to answer that way. You failed a simple question and you expected her to get an English question right like you yourself didn't speak or read in English. You can't even answer a question related to purple right.
"You're the one studying English"…..I can totally see that kid getting a Wallop at some stage in this competition. He is quite the character nevertheless.
These kids really should get out more. I was disappointed that none of them have ever heard of Wingspan. I own that board game. It's an absolutely brilliant game.
does anyone have any explanation or insight as to why most of the time the majority of the team is male? i.e 3 male 1 female. (if it matters, i'm female, not trying to pick a sexist fight)
Thanks Dave for your effort! Without the subtitles is more difficult but I am doing my best and it helps me improve my understanding. I have totally loved Ede’s outfit.
Thank you Dave. I am so glad the BBC, Uni Challenge and YOU continued in this time of sadness and transition for the UK. Not easy for many people. I think this represents a lot of what it is to be British. I am not. But fair play and commiserations. RIP QE2 and long live Uni Challenge!
Now I realize how dependent I am on the subs to understand a lot of what everyone says!
Twitter would have loved Ede if he was as good as Newcastle Lamb
Edit: Nvm they still love him
Does LSE count as an underdog specialist school? They're not as charming as Courtauld or Royal Northern College of Music

Normally I will post a series but I can't post this to any social media platform I am on. No respect for tradition or life

Love that my favorite novel (the first "first line" bonus) came up. Unexpected board game nerdery there… that's not a well known game, yet at least.
What on Earth is Ede wearing.
Seems like there are no subtitles to this episode. Disappointing for deaf people like me who generally enjoy these videos
Fogarty = weak link.
Million thanks! could you add youtube caption for this video as usual!
I miss imperial zeng🥰🥰
Thanks v v much, dear Dave!! Always a delight to see your good work appear on a Monday. Good match!
The teams were a bit lackluster this week. I got bored after a while there. University College's captain Cunanan was really good, though.
PERSONAL STATS:
Starter: 40pts, 4/9 – 44.4%
Bonus: 50pts, 10/15 – 66.7%
Total: 90pts

I can hear the slight slurring in Paxo's voice now. It's a disturbing symptom for an neurologist.

University Challenge Belfast vs Dublin (see 4:33) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKsHBdO5N4Y
There was a young fella called Ede
At LSE did Philosophy read
But a fashion faux pas
Brought a "ha ha ha ha"
From the viewers who on UC doth feed
Thanks, Dave Garda!
Filipino ba si Cunanan?

Oxford killed LSE.. Just as real life
Is it just me or were the first two episodes significantly harder in comparison to this one?
Ede's there just to up the style quotient, their looks are on point… Seemed like a diversity inclusion though
6:01 'THEY LAUGH'
Loving the descriptively specific subtitles!
Looks like Cardiff vs Coventry for Episode 4.
How on earth does the guy studying for a Master's in the philosophy of science not buzz first on the Karl Popper question?

For a man with the name WALLOP, he's surprisingly lugubrious.
21:03 that teamspirit is adorable
Anyone know the Mozart tune at 15:40?
I don't like the applause. I know family and friends are present but….just saying😊
