Boating into Bruges, Belgium is everything people said it would be—bridges, towers, cobblestones, and charm that oozes around every corner. It’s touristy, sure, but deservedly so. It feels like stepping into a living museum that smells faintly of sugar, salt and malt. The buildings are painted with history, and the canals weave it all together. Sure, this isn’t exactly the same Bruges traders and explores once hauled their spices and wool to 900 years ago. But according to UNESCO, it’s as medieval as we’re going to get in the 21st century.

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Things We’re Most Curious About…
GETTING OFF-GRID
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We’ve learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
TALKING TO STRANGERS
People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment.
Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving.
ALTERNATIVE LIVING
These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Even when the mist is hanging thick and the sun is sleeping in, there’s a certain poetry to canal boat life. It certainly doesn't take long to get in the flow of things. Everything about the canal demands patience, from waiting for bridges to open to watching the boat rise and fall in a lock. Experiences like this remind us to slow down and just enjoy the beautiful in-between moments of life.✨ Go to https://surfshark.com/wynns for 4 extra months of Surfshark at an unbeatable price!
been to Brugge many times, it is by far and away the best city to visit in the whole of Europe
It’s too bad you didn’t get to visit/ sample De Halve Maan brewery in Brugge. Their beer is very good and Straffe Hendrik is one of the strongest.
Maybe on your way back.🤔😋😉
You should have tried the electric tour boats!
So good !!cheers
are you guy out of there before this storm called Bert
to be fair, with the best beer in the world I'm guessing you'll be going for 'westvleteren'. Well I urge you to also try the 'st bernardus abt 12'. it is the same beer, brewed to the exact same standard ( the monks couldn't realize the demand for westvleteren so made a deal with a brewery). It was brewed under the same partnership for a while and is still brewed to the same recipe. But trappist beers need to be made by monks in an abbey, so st bernardus can't officially have the same name as Westvleteren.
Obviously there's a few minor differences between the abbey version and the brewery version when it comes to the tooling and the scale of production; and this could result in minute differences in flavour I suppose. But it's definitely worth looking out for a st bernardus, since the brewery has a lot more supply than the abbey, it's a lot easier to come by 🙂
But well, Belgium has so many good beers you could try, there's just no end to it.
of the more well known, a duvel is definitely a personal recommendation :p
Bruges is one of the cities I would love to visit in the future 🎉🎉
It's so strange to see you in a place i know and i have been to multiple times (I live in the north of France), Bruges is a beautiful city, so much historic buildings, it's sad that most of europe got destroyed during wars or else we would have many cities like this one but maybe we would appreciate it less it it was the case, i dunno, love your content.
Cannot believe no one has yet asked if you climbed the tower or visited the alcoves in Koningin Astridpark. It really is a fairytale town, Ken. 😁
So funny to see the both of you ending up in the canals in my backyard !
I’ve been following your adventures for quite some time now, so this one gives another dimension to Gone with Youtwo .
It’s great to hear and see you’re enjoying it so much and being so positive..we tend to forget sometimes the beauty of our own country, thanks for reminding us !
Just 1 beer tip, when pouring it, please tilt your glass so the foam gets a perfect balance, you said it, we are pretty sensitive concerning our beer heritage 😊..cheers and enjoy 🍻
Felt my own blood pressure lowering as you got into the canal/bridge rhythm in those lovely mellow surroundings. Good to see you two feeling it as well; laughing & bantering after being so stressed at the start. Understandable but also too funny watching you freaking out a bit about handling that bumper car of a boat on the most chill of waterways, knowing you've sailed the open sea. I'm sure your HH drama is never far from your minds, but glad you've found such stress-relieving shelter from the storm.
If anyone was wondering what song plays at 13:26, it's Paper Planes – The Best Thing
Breaker Breaker on CB Radio. 😅 I spent time in 80's Vlaanderen as a Refugee from South African bush wars. Millennium new owners mentioned that Yous helped Mark and are "involved" . Hartelikt bedankt. ☝️♥️✌️🌍🙏
All u have to do is tooott 3 times for a bridge to open ,!
Question for the Belgian: I was under the impression that a lot of the windmills along canals/waterways were used for water management and pumping, not milling? Or am I way off here?
P.S.: so many good memories from Bruges. What a party town it can be!
Don’t forget to talk about the Belgium chocolate !
Fort Worth Huckabees hailing from Salzburg this week. Y’all were a days train from here. I think you’d like too. The architecture, castles, fortress, so much, so pretty. We fly back home tomorrow morning after 2 weeks in EU (Rome, 1w; Salzburg, 1w).
I spent a year after graduation from LaSalle, touring Europe. Bruges was one of the most interesting locations along my route. You hit this one out of the PARK! Happy Thanksgiving from the States. We are so impressed with your channel's diversity, exquisite cinematography and quality editing. Enjoy the beer.
A lot of people ride bikes there.
@GwTWs
In 1999, I drove from Frankfort to Munich in Germany with 2 friends who liked beer–but not as much as I did.
First stop for gas, and that roadside store must have had 50 or 60 varieties of beer, and so I picked out 6 different ones–based upon how nice their labels were because there was no one that spoke English and no charts (or Internet). I figured I'd decide which was the best and then stick with that one for the trip. Never saw any of those brands again!!!
However, having had beer on other trips to England, the Netherlands, and Denmark (as well as to Germany again)—no beer in France only wine–I decided that German beers were the best overall with the English Pub draught (Pump) beers a close second. Europeans-excepting maybe the French-really know how to drink and party.
So, I'm really looking forward to your next video about Belgian beers!!!
Wo0dy
❤♥️👍😊🌏🐬
Oh gosh so excited you are exploring again and showing us what we never have seen❤ the canal way and architecture is absolutelty gorgeous and I absolutely love old world❤❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing your navigation, and hope there is another episide of this! Its heavenly!
I once went to Bruges, on a booze cruise, beautiful place. Must admit, I was Very drunk, on "the Best Beer in the world".
Don't forget to buy some of the best Chocolate in the world as well.
Now I just need to visit Belgium. 🌴😎
Thank you Wynns! This is on my bucket list! Enjoy!
I have been following you guys since your motorhome days . Question : when did you start on your Belgium canal journey , October or November. Myself & my wife want to explore the same canals next year & liked the weather you’ve been experiencing, Tks.
As always, superb! Thank you for this wonderful video. Now I need to go to Bruges!! ❤❤❤
As a Canadian, we wouldn’t say “Eh” at the end of our sentences, but we would apologize every time they raised a bridge or disturbed the ducks.
Just added canal boat in Brussels to my bucket list!
This is great. I have always wanted to go on a canal ride through the uk. Heck your not going to get me in the uk for any large amount of time. It's gone bonkers. So I guess this is the next option but even better maybe????
sucks whom the lawer did u pick ??? U understand all the metals on the boat have to be replaced and the co will mostly likely pressure the co that cuased it if they can prove it and blame t hem to pay it out to fix replac all system on the boat . HONESTLY IT IS A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE CONTRACT TO BUILD THE BOAt right i sure u read ur whole contract right
what does it say about complete failure of all these small system on the baot that are cooked and must be replace cuuz the straay current has attacked the system and they will dail in 6months for sure so think of 12 months if stay with the boat . so while u were living the and u were getting attack by electraical straying current s
u might want to go bak to desial for safety reason . how strong is the mast now ?????????????????????????????????????? i bet made ur mast waeker
do u have all valueables offf the boat right be ready to walk a away these exhibit yafts fail so might want to go back to delos style maybe
jason hair looks good final lol
HEY this is way better then your sailing videos telling about how everything is breaking and ur suffering watching ur boart fall apart that must have been stressful ur hiding the stress well
Thanks for showing us around a beautiful medieval town from the perspective of a boat. What a creative way to explore Belgium!
Your comments about eSIMs and internet while travelling prompted us to share an app we recently discovered, that DOESN'T require internet to purchase a new plan. That's because it keeps a global eSIM installed on your phone that already has access to the internet to purchase an internet package. It's called Firsty and we've just used it in Curaçao and Mexico with great success.
Keep up the great work and interesting content guys! 🫶
Cheers 🍻
You must have had quite a time editing all the tower footage. Beautiful video – thank you.
Congratulations on your Belgium canal boating videos. Top notch. I do have a question. We have canalled in France (not with LeBoat) and Canada (With LeBoat) and it is our favourite holiday. While in France it was quite evident that LeBoat's craft were not maintained very well. This was strongly supported by people on their boats. On the other hand the boats in Canada were in great shape.
Obviously they would give you a great boat for your video but did you form an opinion on the other LeBoats you saw in the harbor or on the canal.
If you are still in Belgium go to the WW2 memorial!
My kinda town…did you see the Bruges Virgin so famous in Monuments Men?
The bridge you waited on at 7:53 is a work of art and function. Wow.
Dare I say I've enjoyed this so much I'd love you to do it again.
So much beauty and history! We have been to every US state, camped in most and a few countries, but the downside is that there is no way to see everything. Spent a month in Alaska, and barely scratched the surface of the glaciers and vast National Parks.
Woke up Sunday morn, got my coffee, my roll and turned on the tv to get my weekly WYNNS fix and alas, nothing? Did I miss the memo. Did Jason take too many pics of spires. Was Nikki's driving too erratic running a bridge red light? Whah hoppened?
