  1. This feels like a literal copy-pase "Into the Breach"-clone, in mechanics and aesthetics. I sometimes like to imagine how dissatisfiying it must be to work months or years to do something someone has already done.

  2. Seeing as this is Mercury Game Studio's only release on Steam, and your mixed but generally positive take on it I'm gonna guess that as a first game for a studio it's pretty good?

  3. But like why, why would you make it. You can never live up to what you are imitating. I would understand if there were at least some new twist or a better story but this is just Into the Breach. Last point is, why would you imitate a rogue-like a genre that you can literally play for hundreds of hours. At least when studios make Dark Souls clones they are single player games so people that played Dark Souls to death can play it with a different code of paint

  4. I found the same difficulty curve problem with Into the Breach personally: too easy at the start and too hard at the end and something that makes longer-run rogue-likes irritating to play.

  5. The only surprise is it took so long for someone to make a game in the style of Into the Breach. Unfortunately, conflating the characters and buildings into one thing doesn't sound like a benefit – much of the tension of ITB came from having to decide what to sacrifice to win – is one power worth a capsule upgrade; do you take a big hit to power which costs nothing until it loses you the game, or do you lose a pilot which makes this mission harder and hurts your game but you don't strictly need? Losing that will hurt the play, I think.

  6. Is this a reskin of Into the Breach? It looks like, lawsuit level similar.. Less like it’s inspired, and more like a lot of it was directly copied. Sorry to the devs is this isn’t true but a genuine attempt to make a similar but new experience.

  7. Everyone rightly points out, that this is very similar to Into the Breach. But Into the Breach was very unique. With other strategy genres (e.g. hexgrid attacks without pushing), no such complaint is given, "because that is just the genre". Should we be happy that a unique game led to more of it, instead of the thousands game clone in an established genre?

  8. I was not a fan of into the breach.

    Found something about it utterly boring and lacking impact.

    Absolutely loved faster than light and no matter how angry it made me when I was learning the game I always came back for more punishment.

  9. Indie developers love roguelikes, but this probably would have had better appeal if it wasn't one. This probably doesn't have the depth or polish to beat Into the Breach gameplay-wise, so its best bet to stand out would have been through narrative and/or character connection. Being a roguelike undercuts that.
