TransLink Mark V SkyTrain departs Kingston, Ontario

We’ve loaded the first Mark V SkyTrain onto flatbed trucks en route to Vancouver from Kingston, Ontario. Upon arrival in Burnaby, the train will undergo rigorous testing in the new year that will last through most of 2024.

The 40 remaining Mark V SkyTrains will gradually join the fleet and enter service by 2028.

  1. With the Mark V’s coming soon, it’s really time we appreciate the Mark 1’s before their trip to the siding in the skies. Hearing the motor non-stop passing by Edmonds, I didn’t really think of it. But a few months ago, I realized these original Expo 86 cars will be gone soon. Thank you Mark 1’s for your service, reliability & memories Greater Vancouver made with you.

  2. Retiring all the mk1s is a massive step towards platform screen doors

    1) have the four-car trains at the end of each platform

    2) theoretically the cars are 17m long so the difference in door spacing on 4 vs 5 car trains is marginal
