The SYNCHRO vs XYZ Yu-Gi-Oh Starter Decks!

Trell and Paul rip open 3 copies each of the second two Yu-Gi-Oh Starter Decks of the 5Dโ€™s Synchro era (Duelist Toolbox) and the ZEXAL Xyz era (Xyz Symphony). What kind of decks and strategies can they put together and which deck will come out on top in this slug fest of a duel?

  1. I started playing (somewhat) competitively around the time that XYZ started deck came out. That being said, my cousin played Synchros with Junk destroyer, Nitro Warrior, Stardust dragon, etc. and I still have fun memories playing against it

  2. I always really like XYZ summoning. Despite being the most unpronounceable summoning mechanic ever, I like the idea of keeping the cards used for the summon on the field (even if they're effectively not on the field anymore) to be used as ammunition for a powerful, finite effect. The idea of having effects that can only be used a certain number of times while the card is face-up, is really interesting, and I think that the XYZ system did that the best. Of course, as Yugioh will often do, they messed with it by doing a bunch of weird stuff. They gave some XYZ's strong effects that don't even use their materials sometimes, and they let you "XYZ climb" by overlaying several, successive XYZ monsters with alternate summoning conditions, essentially rendering the original, sometimes very restrictive condition null. Which, you know, was the point of the restriction in the first place. And of course there are plenty of cards with effects just as strong, if not stronger, than many classic XYZ monsters anyway, and their effects are only finite on a turn-by-turn basis, and require no cost! So hey, at least it was fun and unique while it lasted.

  3. Damn Xyz Symphony, that takes me WAYYYYYYY back.
One of my first Starter Decks, got it 2 months after I gave my Blue eyes to my friend who wanted to build Dragons. I needed a new boss to fight against him, and Utopia was that.

  4. So after the resolution of the enemy controller since you had a quillbolt in grave and a tuner on field you could have revived it 3+3+2=8 so you could have gone into junk destroyer with 2 pops and it would have been game am i right?

  6. Ok so I had a random question that popped up in my head while watching, Could Feedback Warrior make something like a XYZ or a Link monster level 3. I know this seems like a dumb question but I thought since it says "it becomes level 3." And not something like "Change it's level to 3." I thought it could give a level to monsters that don't have levels.

Again this was a random question, even if it was possible I don't think anyone would be giving up their normal summon to make a XYZ or Link monster a level 3.

  7. I started getting out of yugioh when Xyz monsters were taking off, so Synchro summoning is the biggest nostalgia mechanic for me. It was also the mechanic that made the Extra Deck relevant in a way that GX's fusion focus had just barely started to do.

  8. I miss the days of plant/junk toolbox also know as shooting quasar says who lol*running the build that broke the game with level eater/spore/glow up bulb/plaguespreader/naturia cherries/tuning ware* teching in BLsEnvoy and the 7star dragons to go into a big eye and Dracosac if necessary ๐Ÿ˜… my apologies for sounding boastful, totally unintended.. getting more to the point,, my comment was initially going to be the suggestion of doing a dual pairing a full engine machina deck VS full engine Qliphort ..seems like an entertaining matchup
