  1. Also Johnny was married to Billie Jean, the same woman Hank Williams was married to when he died. Hank played his last show at the Skyline club in Austin, Johnny was heading to the Skyline at the time of his death.

  2. There's a lot we don't know about what happens when we leave our life on earth. But as the saying goes, it will all be revealed in the fullness of time. For now, I guess we are just to make the most of the time God's given us.

  3. I knew a Johnny Horton. He was actually related to the singer. This one was known as the Singing Fisherman. Louisiana Hayride manager Horace Logan told a story about them going fishing for supper. The hotel manager had been stiffed by musicians, so insisted on being paid in advance. This group had a good fish fry. George Jones saved aside enough money for a bottle of whiskey.

There is at least one biography on Johnny Horton. It has photos of him singing Johnny Reb to an aged Confederate veteran. There was also a phrase he promised to send back to Merle Kilgore. This would be proof of an afterlife.

Logan noted that Horton was one of the few Louisiana Hayride stars who didn't move to the Grand Ole Opry. Another was Slim Whitman. You should do a video on this yodeling singer who made a big comeback thanks to a mail order ad.
