It’s Mind-blowing! Musk’s SpaceX Just Announced NEW Raptor 3 Design Upgrade…
Unbelievable! Before our eyes is the Raptor 3—the latest and most powerful version in the world of modern rocket engines. Yes, you’re not mistaken, and it’s not a 3D rendering—it’s truly cleaner and neater than we can imagine.
So, what has SpaceX and Elon Musk just revealed about this technological marvel? Could there be a new Raptor 3. x variant?
When will we see this new Raptor in action, and on which Starship prototype will it be equipped?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
It’s Mind-blowing! Musk’s SpaceX Just Announced NEW Raptor 3 Design Upgrade…
Indeed, information about the Raptor 3 is not new to rocket enthusiasts like us. However, it’s only now that we have our first look at the appearance of this engine.
On August 3rd, Elon Musk unexpectedly posted an image of a sleek, glossy black Raptor engine that was so clean that most of us suspected it to be a 3D render. With the tweet “Raptor 3, SN1” along with the number 1 printed on the engine, we can conclude that this is the first completed engine of the new generation. While the space community was buzzing with discussion, shortly after, SpaceX’s official page confirmed once again with images of the Raptor engines placed side by side, along with a summary of key specifications for each type, demonstrating the development of the Raptor through different versions.

Furthermore, the company, through precise figures, has affirmed that the research and testing of the new engine have yielded solid results, and once they publicly unveil this Raptor 3, they will begin mass production to quickly proceed with testing.
In the announcement for the launch of the new engine, Elon Musk also mentioned the significant improvements of the highly powerful Raptor 3.
Firstly, one of the main areas of improvement in the Raptor 3 is the reduction in induced mass. Elon Musk stated: “Important to note that the induced mass (mass required by a given engine design that is not the engine itself) of Raptor 3, while far better than Raptor 2, still has a lot of room for improvement.”

On paper, extremely impressive. Let's wait until it actually flies and, more importantly, re-flies.
FWIW, BE-4 is also the initial, conservative implementation of an advanced architecture. There is a lot of room for improvement there, too.
THE CHINESE WILL STEALO IT.
Raptor 3
Yawn
I’m waiting for the. Raptor😊 4. Of course. By the time. That’s out I’ll probavly not care and be waiting on the 5
On the induced mass;
For the fuel and oxy supply system, if you used reversed tapered semi concentric tanks, with methane in center being less volume and oxy outside being 2x volume of methane tank, if both tanks had bottom faces accessible to the engine bay, you could pretty much direct couple the main ring of engines bridging the dividing wall in the two tanks, and eliminate most of the piping runs on the ship via proper tank design.
And if outer tank also tapered wider at butt, get more free standing stability and more area for larger or more engines. Also would create shorter ships and boosters for their volume that were structually stronger than straight sided tubes due to being somewhat conic in shape.
Also with concentration of mass forward due to increasing volume aft, you might be able to design a ship hull that counter balanced the engine mass, with increased mass concentrated forward when tanks were used down.
Allowing better intrinsic stability in unpowered flight. Less likely to fall butt first in an uncontrolled situation and wouldnt require excess taper to do that.
Also would concentrate structure in habitable and cargo spaces that dont have the internal pressure of the fuel mix section.
Basically the ship would be strongest at the nose if your longitudinals were of a constant number from aft to forward.
Also aesthectically more pleasant inside, not just living in a tube like the Space version of Sewer Rats…
I'm not sure modern engineers can handle dealing with semi Yurt like, or semiTipi like structures…
Primatives probably were more creative and adaptable… Not having spent 16 years listening to human droning sounds in school systems…
You could also taper your longitudinals going forward to reduce weight and increase aesthetics…
So far not a least hint of Aesthetics in Starship design… Other than the nose shape, it being longitudinal gore construction.
Too bad Elon cant find any Engineerds that are also artistic… Surely wouldnt hurt to upgrade visuals some…
I could see future Starships looking alot more impressive and less crudely designed..
Basically the difference between a POS and a work of art is the same materials, but the Art has more mental investment,
and care in designing.
And surely those Raptor 3 engines have been a good example of what results when one sets out to refine something…
And its almost like they deserve a better ship design now….
Just sayin'
Crazy, ignoring the engine bell,it isn't much bigger than a regular car engine
I love SpaceX and rocketry in general but none of this matters. Rockets can only fire their engines for a total of 6-7 MINUTES. How are we ever going to be a space fairing race if we don’t have continuous propulsion. We calculate on the least required to accomplish something with nothing left over. That’s efficient like an EV but you can’t go anywhere very far or do anything significant without continuous thrust capabilities. It’s all a big joke on humanity. We will destroy ourselves before we figure this one out.
It is realy funnybot?
Repetitive information. Surely you can come up with new material on Pad B, the office, parking garage, supposed magabay 3.
The Revolutionary new Ruptur 3.0 looks Good … Let's Hope they Work ! … and Solve the which Motor issue …. Unfortunately they will make the Ruptur 2s obsolete … So what's the Rush for Test Flight 5 and Mental Musk's Chopsticks Catch … Then Musk can finish Tower 2 .. and the FAA has time to do its Paperwork ….. Delays , delays and More Delays …. ~yawn~ LMFAO ! 😀
Engine mass says 1525kg not 195kg
Raptor 3 is a freaking sculpture
Where on earth are the mounting points? The gimble torque must be out of this world! (see what I did there)
Price? 😛
Does elon mean 1000 refueled starships and if so would'nt that be more like 10,000 starships?
Strap that thing on a gen 3 robot
That's all fine 40,000 starlink satellites constellation is it going to be able to maneuver through the constellation without colliding with the satellite
More parts more possible issues.
Less parts
Less expense
Less complexity
Less problems
Less manufacturing timeframe
❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
3 star ships a day well no more humans needed
Why can't you Yanks use all ISO units?
At least you refer to the mass as 1525 kg but the thrust is 2.75 MegaNewtons rather than your Mickey Mouse 280 tonne-force?
(You have the same problem referring to the Giga press' force capacity rather than the force units used by the manufacturer…
Dude i cant wait to see raptor 3 fly. A complete stack tested light as possible and fully reuseable ❤ 🎉
The best part is no part..
Why do we have over 40 engines???
Hmmm
U know the miltary smiling EAR TO EAR they must have millions on order. An they put those on giant drones an missiles. Look out. The 🚀 rocket engine amazing
🤗wow! It’s so clean and tight! The size is immense! – (pic : towed by cybertruck)
Actually ISP in second is how long a rocket can burn to offset the acceleration of gravity at the Earths surface, yes you need to know the mass fuel rate and thrust, but what ISP—and it's said I.S.P. not isp—is as said somewhat analogous to how many seconds it can burn to suspend it's self in Earth surface gravity as if the engine mass and tank mass didn't exist.
which can be seen in the calculation to get Isp = F / (ṁ × g), in English that is specific impulse equal mass flow rate times standard gravity divided by thrust, the brackets mean that you do the mass flow rate times gravity first even though it's not written that way. Honestly I prefer using the effective exhaust velocity.
Why so many starship will be built?
These videos sure do say a lot, but 99% was said in the last video, and in the video before that. This constant regurgitation of old news just to create yet another 20 minute video for sheep to watch is disgusting. Click-bait by every imaginable definition of the word.
I would like to see 8 or10 or so of these engines hooked up to a loaded enclosed barge just to see how far an fast it would go acoss atlantic an pacific
