  1. I was just waiting for N’Keal Harry to have some tragic issue. Got sick of watching footballs from Tom Brady BOUNCE OFF HIS HANDS. Belichick was smart to get rid of him. The Bears should have told themselves that if Tom Brady can’t make you look good, who the hell can? Now he’s hurt and will be no good when he returns, either.

  2. Jeez, can’t the NFL do ANYTHING right these days? What Perna said was right…they “emphasize” certain penalties every year FOR NO EFFIN REASON!”

  3. Are people still surprised to see the NFL obviously going for the money by creating these bullshit rules to increase drama and attention, keeping all of the talking heads in business?

  4. its almost like the nfl wants a clear cut option to influence games or spreads and they can have the excuse of its an emphasis this year. Remember they don't have to influence who wins the game when billions are made on spread, prop bets, etc. dont be surprised when an "illegal contact" penalty decides a pivotal game.

  5. The refs putting an emphasis on more illegal contact penalties this season is a slap in the face to the fans. Basically they are saying they want more games like that garbage Thanksgiving game with the Cowboys and Raiders. Fantastic…

  6. quite frankly, They've been wrecking the game for years… Hell, defenders can barely touch a QB these days.. and that's while he still has the ball. Can't hit him in the legs.. penalty, can't hit him in the head… if you dont' want a QB his, put a flag belt on him and make it flag football… Geez the way the rules are now, you can hit a kicker more than you can a QB.. It's not bad enough that they get the taxpayers to build them a new stadium to the tune of $1B.. then they charge and arm and a leg to get in the stadium… and only play 8-9 games/year in that mega stadium… why bother.

  7. Looking at Tebow, he was holding the ball too far back. I did the exact same thing. As a lefty, too. Except I was 10, so my hand was a bit small to fit around most footballs, so I thought it'd be better to hold it further back.

    It wasn't.

I liked Tebow in the NFL, though. If for nothing else, to piss off people I knew, who hated him.

  8. You said there were 36 illegal contact penalties called last year. There have so far been 54 lawsuits settled over Deshaun Watson's misconduct – 24 for him personally and 30 more from the Texans. Yet, the NFL chooses to put an emphasis on the wrong thing.
Also, last year's Super Bowl was fantastic… right up until the last 4 minutes when the refs decided to start throwing random flags. Maybe the Rams would've scored anyway, I can't say, but the penalties sure tilted the field their way at the end. And the NFL thinks that's what we want. MORE flags. I don't think anyone in the history of NFL fandom has ever wanted MORE flags.

  9. Right, now we know what the bs penalty will be at the end of a game to cause the Lions to lose to the Packers this year. It will be an illegal contact on a hail mary where the receiver blatantly runs through the db who is back pedaling.

  10. I hate feeling this tinfoil-hatty, but this really feels like it has to do with the rise of sports gambling. I just don’t see another reason to give refs more power to subjectively decide the outcome of games. They’re definitely not doing it because it’s what fans want to see…
