The case of the murdered monarchies continues! Russia is far and away the most famous monarchy to crumble to dust, and boy did it ever. When Nicholas II became Tsar, he told his brother-in-law, and I quote “I am not yet ready to be Tsar. I never wanted to become one. I know nothing about the business of ruling”. He then spent the next 23 years fighting tooth and nail to hold onto absolute power. Imagine his shock when everything went belly up

And that's a wrap on World War One! What part of history do you want to see next?
9:58 onwards: Wait, they didn't rape them, only stabbed them to death 😱
Pro tip for history lovers on Instagram; Never touch an post featuring the Russian imperial family on your explore page, otherwise you’ll be flooded with posts about these ghastly people, who were disasters for everyone around them, the empire and indeed world since the revolution led to communism. I’d say they were incredibly lucky to have been brutally murdered, it obscured just how terrible and stupid they were. (This pro tip applies to posts about Princess Diana too.)
This is actually one of the most cursed periods for any monarchy in European history
I don’t even enjoy learning about it
now this is called quality content
We all need a family wizard.
I watched this video in hopes of hearing ra ra Rasputin and was not disappointed
Basically a Tutorial for what not to do in Victoria 3, thanks Jack.
I recently listened to a podcast that detailed some of the failed efforts made to get the Czar and his family into exile and safety in England, and it's heartbreaking to think of. So many European royals were related at that point, and they were a close family. Many years earlier, Queen Victoria had opposed the match between her favourite granddaughter and Nicholas specifically because Russia was a dangerous and poorly run country. But once worse came to worse, Queen Victoria was long dead, it was considered politically untenable in England to offer them sanctuary, and the Romanovs were left to their fate.
Russian emperors try not to get assassinated (impossible).
Well, the voyage of the damned that led to the battle of Tsushima has not one, but two videos from Drachinifel. I highly recommend you watch them, before those pesky desert going torpedo boats show up next to the Kamchatka
I wonder if the story of Anna Anderson might make a good video.
Nice 😂
Idk how but the PR guy is probably the heaviest drinker of them all
You have to do Aisin-Gioro Puyi next! It’s a story a lot of people don’t know and I think would enjoy
IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT NICK
Can you make an episode on the portugese king D.Manuel
I think my butt turned off notifications. WTF butt?
Thank you for keeping his story going.
I blame the Empress for the downfall. She insisted on keeping Rasputin around, despite it being incredibly unpopular. She undermined the family's image by keeping a lot of Germans around. Then, when Nicholas finally saw that they needed to abdicate and flee, she refused to leave. Had she been more reasonable, they might have at least survived.
Shoutout to that Monty Python's minstrel song reference. Brave, brave Sir Robin
8:19 As someone who's worked in public relations… holy shit I'd hate to be Nicholas II's PR guy.
If things in Ukraine keep up the way they've been going, you might just have to make a sequel…
Alright so I just kinda want to say he was not that bad. This video paints him out to be like the worst ruler imaginable but a lot of things in the video were either lacking very crucial context or just flat out wrong. I know he wasn’t the perfect ruler but he wasn’t some incompetent idiot who saw the Russian people as inferior either.
I'm an anarchist so I'm pretty far off supporting the Bolsheviks as a whole, but let's be honest, they did Russia a favour in offing Nicholas.
I think they tore off Alexander's junk too in that assassination.
