  1. I wasn't even aware they had dropped a content patch. The game kind of fell off quickly after launch hype when you settle in and realize its just a "grind grind grind" I remember thinking I needed to get to 50 logging, and it was going to be awesome when I got there for the next tree type and the next stage of crafting. Except after chopping for ages and unlocking mature trees…it was just the same, except now the next step was even further away and that was just too much chopping.

  2. Regarding loot systems; ones which are almost entirely RNG tend to have great player retention for a very small subset of players and is generally awful for the overall health of a game. Random loot is good for lesser gear as they are generally high drop rate and are supposed to be replaced. They often serve as materials, trade goods or a money source. Actually good gear that people look for as their best in slot gear should have less variance (if any) as it is a massive point of frustration to get the loot you get that has a low drop rate, just to have it be vendor garbage.
Diablo 3 does it fairly well, having the legendaries often locked to certain stats, and them always having the particular trait of the legendary, meaning it'll always be worth getting if that's your best in slot. In Diablo 3 you often replace a legendary item with another of the same type of legendary, but with slightly better stats. For Diablo 3 it works fairly well, but does get stale, which is why there's often a massive drop in players shortly after each season starts. People reach a point where they just have to mindlessly grind and get paragon levels, yet they know they'll never be able to compete in the ladder against those who spend 90% of their waking hours playing the game, basically regardless of skill level.

Long story short; less RNG means a healthier relationship with loot.

  3. This game has a profound lack of vision and direction. This has been the case for quite a while now. It really just seems like they are making it up as they go at this point. But that is not the biggest issue facing the game currently. There is a deeper problem, one which is something that must change or the game will never be successful no matter what they do.

The developers of this game fundamentally misunderstand the relationship between the players, the developers of the game and the game world itself. As long as this misunderstanding exists they will be unable to make New World into an MMO that can stand the test of time or maintain its popularity.

  4. I agree with every point you made, but for me it isn't the real problem with new world. I personally didn't reach max level. All the enemies were copy pastes of previously encountered mobs. The zombies you beat at level one are literally EVERYWHERE in their world. Really, really, really awful world design.

It looks beautiful, but completely void of any substance.
