Silk pressing is a specialty of mine in the salon. I am a professional hairstylist sharing my tips on what makes a great silk press. Yes, there’s a science to this. I can talk for hours on this topic alone but this isn’t a course, just tips and tricks that I wanted to share 🙂

The ends of your hair, cuticle alignment and moisture level—plays a huge part on if your hair will have the potential to be silky or not. If your ends are frayed or broken off it will cause the split or broken pieces it will literally hold on the each other, making it to where your hair strands will not move individually. If your cuticle is not aligned, you will not get the silky touch, shininess or smoothness that you often see online. Its also great for detangling

Ways to ensure that these things are in tact is putting yourself on a hair routine. Every time you shampoo your hair make sure that you are using a deep conditioner afterwards. After every 2-3 deep conditionings do a protein treatment to give your hair strength and to avoid weak strands from over moisturizing. ALWAYS sleep with a silk scarf/bonnet, don’t consistently wear tight braids or over use your oils.
