Repairing a Broken Yarn Eyelet & Passap Parts Alternatives
In this video, I address the challenge of a broken yarn eyelet that occurred while I was knitting the sleeve of my very first knitted sweater. Join me as I experiment with two different types of glue to repair the eyelet and explore alternative solutions. Stay tuned because soon I will upload a tutorial on creating an eyelet in FreeCAD, empowering you to handle similar issues with confidence. Let’s dive into the world of knitting machine repairs together!

☼ Important Note about the 3D printed version: I printed the eyelet using PLA with a 15% infill. The eyelet is functioning well; however, I’ve noticed that as yarn passes through it, it gradually wears down the tip of the eyelet. For optimal durability, I recommend considering the use of a sturdier filament or increasing the infill percentage. As I’m new to 3D printing, I’m unable to provide specific advice on this matter. Your feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Here is the update: The glued eyelet still works.

I think you have just discovered the reason Passap engineers used metal tips on the plastic eyelets. You may want to try repairs of the plastic using super glue mixed with baking soda or powdered plastic and super glue mix. This mixture makes a very hard product that sometimes needs to be sanded back to a smooth shape once dry.
I love that you are expirmenting with the different types of filaments in making new 3D printed Passap parts.
