Recon! Spruance Leader: Cold War Fleet Combat Solitaire Strategy Game

This is an unboxing of the latest game in the Leader series, Spruance Leader. Designed by Dean Brown (previous design B-17 Flying Fortress Leader) and published by DVG.

Spruance Leader focuses on commanding and managing a US Navy Carrier Battle Group in the Cold War setting of the 80s and 90s, simulating major naval conflicts in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Carrier battle groups, comprising aircraft carriers and their escorting ships, must be protected from the devastating attacks of missiles, torpedoes, bombs, and enemy vessels. Attack submarines which threaten the carrier battle groups have to be hunted down and neutralized. Air assets must be carefully assigned to combat air patrols, long-range strategic missions and attack strikes. You will need to manage the right combination of seaborne and airborne resources under your command in order to complete the various types of missions and lead your group to victory.

Other Leader games I have covered on my channel include Zero Leader, Hornet Leader, Corsair Leader, and others.

  1. Been waiting for this to show up. 80's air and naval wargames are one of my weak spots.
Was a lot of backers for a DVG game so they'll probably still be filling them for awhile. Been revisiting Hornet Leader and TAL the past week, in the meantime.

  2. Awesome video as always. Checked to see if my Dad's ship was in the game and it happened to be the the first chit you popped (CGN-38, he's a plank owner.) Was really tempted to back when it was on KS, but I'm swill waiting on Warfighter Fantasy to be delivered. Will probably have to pick it up later in retail. Looking forward to the playthrough, keep up the good work!
