  1. Makes me pretty happy to see you guys actually enjoying and appreciating almost every aspect of this movie. It really is one of my top favourite animated movies of all time. So watching reaction videos for it is a special treat for me , but I don't think no other reaction video have shown as much appreciation for the movie itself in terms of artistic appreciation as you guys have.
As a big G1 fan that makes me really happy.

  2. Seeing this live in the theater was great, I saw it a few times, but it was sad to see Optimus and the rest of the original characters being killed off. As I got olded, I learned that this movie was mainly created by Hasbro to be a commercial to sell new toys and to stop making the old ones. Little did they realize how much kids lived the characters.

  3. All the Transformers animated series and the movie were done in Japan. Something else about this movie is that it was Orson Wells's last movie. He passed away about 6 months after doing his voice role. A movie that came out before Transformers and Akira, which probably has the best Anime Movie old school ever done, is a movie called Macross do you remember Love. You really need to check that movie out. Its full version is on youtube.

  4. Still one of the best movies ever made. I think what started fans down the path of Bay-hatred was when he said that he watched this and this movie was terrible. I mean.. dude.. but yeah, Transformers has always been about the robots, the humans always take a backseat, but Hollywood seemed to think that wouldn't be relatable for a general audience so we had to have a human centric movie with robots in it. I dunno.. sticking to the source material usually works better, this shit isn't popular for nothing.

  5. “I have summoned you here for a purpose…”

    “Nobody summons Megatron!”

“Then it pleases me to be the first!”

Probably one of the best lines in the movie, and comebacks by Unicron

  6. This is such a great movie You guys should definitely try to fit in the GI Joe movie as well it came out just about a year after this one it's very similar in quality and scale Both of the movies take the series which have been running for a while and just gave it a total upgrade and animation quality and scale and made some epic stories using the character Both movies also act as A Ending for the Respective shows

  7. OH! Now that I think of it, and I hope you guys see this comment…… the Cybertronic Spree (a Transformers Gen 1 based rock band) play the music to this movie, as well as their original creations. I saw them live earlier this year and they put on a fantastic show!!!! Highly recommend their channel to you. If you like this, you'll love them, too!

  8. I showed my brother the first part of this film because I wanted him to hear the song and I expected him to go "oh alright, that's what you were talking about" and then leave, but… he stayed and we just watched the whole movie together for and hour lol

  9. This is one of the most positive reactions to this film and you generally seemed to enjoy yourselves. While it has a place close to the heart of Gen-Xers, it was not very popular at the time because it killed off all the popular characters and concentrated on characters that were introduced in this film. (The Dinobots are the only major characters in the second half of the movie that were from the first two seasons of the cartoon.)

    – Bonecrusher is the name of the Constructicon bulldozer in G1 and forms one of the arms of Devastator.
    – Hot Rod debuts in the live action films in The Last Knight. Hound seems to fill the Kup role in live action.
    – G1 Ironhide was voiced by the same actor as Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen).
-Astrotrain does speak. He tells them to jettison some weight (in space?) which leads to Megatron encountering Unicron.

I think you might enjoy some episodes of the original cartoon. I'd recommend the first miniseries (More Than Meets the Eye), SOS Dinobots, Key to Victor Sigma (1 and 2), Five Faces of Darkness (which is the immediate sequel to this movie) , Dark Awakening, and Return of Optimus Prime. There's also a couple of fun episodes like, "Grimlock's New Brain" and "The Golden Lagoon," and "Starscream's Brigade."

  10. I have watched several reactions to this movie, and it cracks me up. The various reactions act like this is referencing Bayverse and not the other way around. The Bayverse definitely raised Bumblebee's level. No one wanted Bumblebee when I was a kid, lol.

  11. I'm guessing by now most of the important lore for this film has been covered, so I'm going to explain why killing off so many characters both did and didn't make any sense at the time.

The "pro" argument is simple; Hasbro was way more concerned with moving product (toys) than with storytelling. They still wanted a good story, but the main thing was showing off the new characters and thus – indirectly – the toys based on them. Toys that were no longer selling – toys were kept on shelves for years at a time back then – had their respective characters killed off. Now I'm going to explain the "con side," or why this was utterly idiotic.

It is important to remember that, even in the beginning, the Transformers toyline would use the same mold, just in different colors, for multiple characters. IIRC, Wave 1 of the original toyline had only two or three "unique" molds, not used by other characters. Though later, it would become all the molds. XP So, if a popular character's toy isn't selling, the simple solution? Give them a new toy! Nope, there is an even simpler one: recolor (maybe also retool) an existing mold that would be compatible. Optimus Prime not selling, if only we had another semi-tractor and trailer action figure we could do up as Optimus Prime. Oh, maybe one with the very popular "combiner" gimmick, where one main core guy could have four smaller guys join together to make an overall larger toy. It'd be even better if there was an episode of the original cartoon where Optimus Prime and some other Autobots faked being a combiner…

Yes, I'm saying that all three of those things happened, but Hasbro still didn't do this. There's a Decepticon group known as the Stunticons, made up of a semi-tractor and trailer character (Motormaster), and four sports cars (Breakdown, Dead End, Dragstrip, and Wildrider). There's an episode where Optimus Prime and four other Autobots even pretend to be the Stunticons, including faking the combination sequence. These same toys would continue to sell well after the movie (as Decepticons); Hasbro either didn't think or didn't go through with just releasing the same toys with different pain jobs (and Autobot symbol stickers) to have a new Optimus Prime. It gets worse; I haven't done an exhaustive study, but I know that some of the other Autobots who died in this film? While the Stunticons wouldn't fit for all of them, there were other toys that had already released that could be used in their place. You see, most G1 combiners were cross compatible (the Japanese releases even advertised it as a feature).

The closest thing to an excuse for not doing any of that? The long production time of the film. It began before the second season of the cartoon was complete, let alone had aired. So it is possible that most who worked on this didn't know about the above non-Optimus toys in question, and that it'd be oh-so-simple to repaint, maybe add a tiny bit of retooling, to keep things running smoothly. Oh, and in the modern day, Hasbro regularly looks for characters who can be "mold mates". That is, the same mold can be designed to it can be used for multiple characters. Turns out, it is relatively inexpensive to mold (for example) a second head that, when making Character A, gets tossed into the recycling bin. Then, they run the mold again for Character B, and now Character A's head gets recycled. Sometimes, there will be a few other changes; one comes with a sword, the other with guns, and whichever accessory isn't needed? Recycling bin. Throw in some alternate transformation steps (Character A folks the panels one way, Character B the other) and… well, at least Hasbro eventually learned their lesson. Motormasters, Octane (now named Tankor because of copyright/trademark issues), and a couple other semi-tractor and trailer characters often have also release as Optimus Prime.

  12. Maybe in place of 'Dare to be stupid' they could have perhaps had 'Always look on the bright side of life' as the music during the Planet Junk campfire dance scene, as an in-joke based on the fact that Wreck Gar, the Junkion leader is voiced by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame himself, lol

Did you REALLY become animators without seeing this?

    Orson Wells

    Leonard Nimoy

    Eric Idle

You bring SHAME upon the name of animators for not seeing this earlier

You had better know what Flight Of Dragons is about, or you're fired

  14. I saw this in the theater when it came out and I was surprised how dark it went. Loved it though and I think that the fact they didn’t pull punches is why we’re still talking about it today.

  15. Such a good movie. I remember seeing it in the theaters waaay back when, the commercials said you had to see it twice to catch everything, I did. This was both the best & worst thing Sunbow Studios did. Though they didn't know it at the time, Optimus Primes death would also kill their studio. Fan backlash to that characters death is the reason they didn't kill Duke off in the GI Joe animated movie. Instead they opted to put him into his 3rd or 4th coma. I never counted how many Transformers were killed in the film, but I'm willing to bet that if I did a drinking game out of it, I'd get fairly plastered.

  16. Something I love about Dark of the Moon is the one scene in the battle of Chicago where things are going to hell and Prime swoops down and takes out every Decepticon in his path. He turns the tide and it pays homage to the scene in Autobot City where he does the same thing right before his fight with Megatron.

  17. I mean Sam is supposed to be Spike, which is a damning indictment on Sam. When the Autobots met Spike and his father Sparkplug in G1 Spike was a fifteen year old kid working with his Dad on an oil rig. Sam hung out with the Autobots for six years graduated college and still wasn't as together as Spike at the beginning.
