Hollow Knight is a 2017 Metroidvania action-adventure game developed and published by independent developer Team Cherry. In the game, the player controls the Knight, a nameless insectoid warrior. The Knight explores Hallownest, a fallen kingdom plagued by a supernatural disease. The game is set in diverse subterranean locations, and it features friendly and hostile bug-like characters and numerous bosses. Fireborn is one of the big names in the HK content community, he's got a lot of videos explaining breakthroughs in speedrunning, including a series about the history of HK speedruns. I mostly watch Skurry for HK content, but when I want a glitch or trick explained I'll go to Fire.

This really only gives you access to one big skip in white palace since abyss shriek is a late-game spell

That’s because you don’t know what to look for. So far there has already been a background object pogo, a vengefly pogo, and a precise hop to avoid a hard fall.
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the thing about this game is that on different patches there are different tricks, added or removed by developers (mostly unintentionally). For example, on current patch you can't pogo explosions, but can pogo vengeful spirit.
Also I would recommend looking at BlueSR channel. Dude's got a game show with the most well-known faces from HK community and also speedrunner of gimmick categories (all-stag-stations, no geo, all that)

It's interesting to note that there is a category in which the speedrunner will not pick up the lumafly lanter, and he'll traverse a little bit of deepnest is complete darkness. I don't really remember which one it is though.. 😡
Also on another note, the new world record being a minute slower doesnt necessarily mean that someone did the same but better. It can be a case of different routing. You have different combination of the upgrades you need to pick up to get to the end of the game, aaction of picking these combinations of upgrades have different routes. Discovery of time saves through new techniques can make an alternate route better in some cases

Hey new viewer, fun fact, the Chinese setting is the fastest dialogue setting so it is common to see in speedruns just to click through dialogue a slight bit faster.

Some of the skips are only possible in the 1.2 patch. Current patch 1.5 its different and longer. So don´t get frustated if you can't pogo explosions. great vid!
It's great because fireb0rn's current PB is 32m 24s, which is 6th on the leaderboard (his run is on his channel btw!). The current world record is actually 31m 48s , held by SkateKing (also on his channel, amazing run!!).
All the top spots are from within the last 1-3 months as well, showing how the HK speedrun community is still very active despite the game just recently reaching its 6th Year Anniversary.
Will say: you don't need Vengeful Spirit (first spell) to beat the game, just makes it way easier and faster! You can beat the baldurs (the guy who blocks Greenpath entrance) by getting close enough that they open, and when they spit at you, let the spit hit you. The recoil from the damage launches you at the baldur, allowing you to get a hit or two in before it closes back up.
I dont mind the reacting toa reaction format, but you reay should start by reacting to a tutorial run or smth from GDQ, where they wxplain basic mechanics.
For example jumping while going through dirtmoth, just past kings past, is already a speedrun strategy you never noticed. In Dirtmoth the player walkspeed is lowered, but jumping override it.
Zote actually DIE to vengefly if you dont save him there, so you NEVER meet them if you didnt meet him there
When you first 'meet' the dreamers they are trying to put you into a dream so that you can't open up the black egg. It's the moth guy who pulls you out of it and gives you the dream nail, allowing you to enter people's dreams and also, presumably, leave them. I haven't watched your series so I don't know if you noticed that when you originally played it. If you want to really get into it, only two of them want to lock you in a dream. Monomon isn't sided with the other two dreamers anymore and wants things to change.

I'm very happy you watched Fire's video, I've been watching his stuff a lot and he's one of (without a doubt) the most dominant HK speedrunners as well as Canada's best HK runner (if I'm not mistaken)
Also, Pest has been one of the best speedrunners in the community, as well as mod boss clearers (though he's had a lot of bumps)
