To clear things up, Shanks does NOT have Devil Fruit powers. But he DOES have a special ability, one that both Devil Fruit users and non-Devil Fruit users can use, but not everyone has it. I won't say what it is because it's spoilers, but you will find out eventually. 😉
The actor for Buggy is wonderful. Rightfully so, since Oda said Buggy is one of his favorite characters he created. Good reaction, glad y'all are enjoying it!
They didn't give much detail in the show why it's such a big deal to go to the Grand Line. It's not a place you just go to and return. It's a stretch of ocean with extremely strange phenomena, encircled by the Calm Belts full of giant sea beasts. There is a specific place that is an entrance into it, but they only way to come back out is to circumnavigate the whole globe and basically conquer the ocean. So for most people, going to the Grand Line means leaving forever.
Some dynamics between the chars ij this show arent 100% canon, they are kinda different here.
This series feels like a speedrun of 50 episodes

Not like the equator, because the Grand Line runs around the world NW to SE. Note that Nami doesn't draw North Blue at the top, but at the top-left, making the top of the map NE.
Map men did a cool video on maps that don't have North at the top, but this setting is the first one I've seen using NE.
So the price on a wanted poster is a good gauge when it comes to strength or ability. It is kind of like power levels in DBZ. Buggy is certainly not small scale here.

Luffy is actually a monster when it comes to eating in the anime.He eats food good for like 500 people haha. Zoro is also the toughest, most principled, most serious and most loyal to Luffy. You may find him boring sometimes because his hobbies are just sleeping and training haha but he's a fan favorite.
Luffy's on his way to reinvent the whole meaning of being a pirate.

Take note, Shanks SWAM to save Luffy. Meaning, that power he displayed? It wasn't a Devil Fruit. It was something else.
They actually shifted and changed events around so some characters could appear much earlier then they did.
Garp for example only really appeared round about 16 years (!!!) after One Piece started, beforehand he only was seen maybe once or twice in essentially background shots. So, in the adaption, he would appear at earliest maybe around season 4 or 5, so the makers shifted his story way forward so we get his stuff already.
To clarify , buggy wasnt lieing. He was shipmates with redheared shanks when they were kids younger then luffy (later episodes/chapters in the original prove it, idk how they will explain it in the live action)

Pretty much every plot line involving the map was really dumb when you think about it. The map can easily be copied by Nami, who knows how to draw maps. She had the map and they were sailing for days with nothing to do. She could have easily made numerous copies of the map. It would have been smart anyways in case they lose it. Then all they had to do was go "ok here's a copy of the map" and boom done.

Buggy is honestly one of my favorite characters in the show. Jeff Ward does such a great job with being a complete dick, but so charming and funny that you actually love him as a villain.

Luffy wants to sail the seas with his friends and go on adventures. He thinks that's what being a pirate is, because the only pirates he ever really knew were Shanks and his crew. Sounds like the right guy to become king of the pirates, to me. Imagine how much better the world would be if everyone was a pirate under Luffy's command.
Also, really nice to get a bit of media out of Hollywood with a positive male role model in it. Shanks is the perfect father figure. Teaches Luffy that a man needs to be good, and in control of himself. Normally Hollywood really hates fathers and anyone resembling one. Good that Oda was involved to protect his IP with full creative control, or we'd be talking about another horrible live action full of subverted expectations, cynical postmodern deconstruction, and gray morals.
I wonder why the hat is so important to Shanks…..
Jeff Ward really stole the entire episode as Buggy the Clown and I got to say he was such a menacing foe due to his powers and abilities.

So, you may have already picked up on it, but the names in this show follow the Japanese style of introducing yourself surname first, then your given name. So if this were in English conventions, it'd be Luffy D. Monkey, or Zoro Roronoa.
