  1. I have a gun baseball bats and knives hidden all over the house. My husband has a security system with cameras. We also have a panic room (my insistence). I'm a survivalist.

  2. Yeah I'm going to say this on the 4th story if the OB wants to deal with their financial situation where their mother has no control over it at the age their at they are allowed to open up their own account without their parents needing to know and they can make their account as private as they want and if I were them to make sure my mail doesn't say anything to the mother I would have it sent to a friend that I can trust that's willing to hand that mail over to me at school

  3. Good afternoon. Thanks for the stories. I have protection, but I don't let people know. If you come into my house uninvited, you'd better have a very good reason. Have a great day

  4. Story 1: Sorry, but I fear a gun may be the only answer to get it through that man's head that he can't boundary stomp. Sure he'll put all the blame on the son and OP, but now he knows how easily he could get hurt. Some people really are deep in denial that anything bad can happen. While I do think we can go overboard with security, guys like that make our anxieties not so crazy.

  5. Story #5 I'm an immigrant form Russia. Moved here when I was still in school. One of the things I remember is a teacher telling me to stop talking in Russian but said nothing to my friend who was speaking in Chinese. I found it a bit unfair.

  6. It's a bit of a long shot, but OP in the first segment might consider taking out a restraining order against BF's dad. Entering someone's house uninvited, key or no key, is usually called trespassing, and given OP's history, OP might have a case.

  7. I once worked in a bookstore near a high end (all mansion) neighborhood and other regular neighborhoods. We could almost always spot the people from the rich neighborhood, not by their fancy cars or clothing, it was their penny pinching cheapness. They would try to used expired coupons from other stores, would buy the Bargain books and then complain about the small black mark put on the bargain books because this $5-$10 book is a Wedding Present, and generally argue every price (attempting to haggle) or wanted Membership Discounts without buying a Membership.

  8. On story 4 it sounds like OP is suffering from depression. I would say if possible, OP should go and secretly open their own bank account that they only have access to, or see if their job will write them a check which they could then cash and find a really good hiding spot that no one would find, that way they could save up money to move out.

  9. I keep a couple of cans of pepper spray in my living room drawer. And I have my Grandma's old 12 gauge in my bedroom closet. I also have 3 locks on my front and back door.

  10. With security, there is no such thing as overkill. Far better to have spent (much) time and money on things that (in the end) you never ever really needed, then to face the day you need that one thing you skimped on or skipped getting.

  11. BF's father story: Yeah, a security system with cameras and audio is indicated, possibly adding in some lights hooked to motion detectors. But despite ED giving back the key (who says he didn't make copies?) I would also change the locks. Your bf needs to force the issue about the POS system though, that's ridiculous!

  12. Own separate checking account story: OP, you didn't say where you lived so I don't know if your employer would do this. Go to a different bank and set up a checking account. Then have your employer SPLIT your pay, part of it going to your mother, the rest to your "secret" account. Send enough to your mother's account so she's not suspicious and save the rest in your account. Once you've managed to save enough to move out and have done so, if you desire, you can stop the payments to your mother's account. For the time being, think of what goes to your mother's account as rent, groceries and utilities.

Talking like a commie story: One more time: The United States of America does not have an official language!!! That being said, there was a time shortly after The Revolutionary War when Congress debated making GERMAN our official language! OP, good on you for not losing it and especially for raising your kids to speak a second language.
