What If The Fantastic Four Had Not Gained Their Superpowers? Instead of flying through space with inadequate shielding, the team decide to wait for additional funding, and the mission goes smoothly. Reed and Ben are hailed as heroes and Earth starts a space colonization program. Later, Reed is contacted about strange earthquakes swallowing power plants, only to have a giant monster emerge and take his building down with it. Reed and Sue, along with Johnny and Ben, who are still here for some reason, venture into the chasm, armed with flashlights and laser guns. The team is attacked by rock people, while Reed and Johnny fall through the floor. Sue and Ben are cornered, but escape through a convenient air duct. Reed and Johnny find a monorail system, that eventually takes them underneath Monster Island, where they black out and appear before the Mole Man. Sue and Ben also find the monorail and appear just in time to stop him from summoning monsters. Which he does anyway when they try to lead him out of the caverns. The military show up just in time and everyone gets off the island right before it blows up. And later, the team is commended for their work, even being called a fantastic four. Next is What If Nova Had Not Given Up His Powers. Instead of leaving the world of Xandar without powers, Rich decides to stay and feel important. But eventually gets bored, finds a teleporter, and goes back to Earth. However, the Champions of Xandar are right behind him, demanding he surrender. Which he refuses to do, attacking them. After a struggle, his parents beg him to stop, pointing out the damage he’s done to the neighborhood. Realizing his selfishness, Rich hands over his powers and the others depart, saying he’ll always be seen as a hero. These are just the same stories that already happened with slightly different events. Fantastic Four plays out almost exactly as normal, but if the team was more like Challengers of the Unknown. Nova returns to Earth and gives up his powers, he just has to bust some heads first. This issue isn’t great and you won’t miss a thing by not reading it.
