  1. What I love about the first 2 generations of Pokémon is that they feel interconnected. Even in the anime when Ho-Oh appears in the first episode. That Pokémon’s existence expanded the idea that there are more Pokémon then what the world tells you. It’s such a simple concept but it works. I loved it even more that both the Johto and Kanto regions are accessible. It doesn’t make sense that each new game has a new “undiscovered” region of Pokémon but everywhere else is inaccessible with fucking flying Pokémon at your disposal lol

Not to mention the designs are actually aligned with each other between gen 1 and 2. Gen 3 was when they really started the inconsistencies in what a Pokémon should look like.

  2. 3 years to develop and putting your heart and soul into a game, you get a masterpiece.
With the later games simply being designed as fast as possible and for nothing more than a paycheck, you get a game like Scarlet and Violet. Broken, relying heavily on internet play and being plagued with DLC.

You think developers could learn something. Quality takes time. If the product is good, it WILL sell. The moment you do something for quick cash and nickel and dime people, the product will be trash.

  3. To this day, I do not think there has been a time in the general Pokémon fandom with the type of excitement and unfettered optimism that came with the release of HGSS. At the time, FRLG were the only remakes Game Freak had ever done. And they were the original games, more likely to get special treatment than other titles, so we didn't know if there were plans to continue remaking older Pokémon games. But I remember discussing Pokémon with my friend, and when I expressed how badly I hoped they would eventually remake GSC she said "Wait. I think they are." I FLIPPED. She showed me an online announcement confirming HGSS, and we lost our minds. Gen II was so beloved by the entire fanbase at the time, the original sequels that expanded on a world we had never known would change when obsessively playing RBY as little kids, and the sequels not only lived up to the hype but exceeded it. Everyone had Pokewalkers, everyone was geeking over follow Pokémon, people were PUMPED. It honestly makes me a little sad to compare the hype for HGSS to the way the fanbase reacted to SV. The Pokémon Company has really let the games' reputation decline.

  5. They should remake the extended versions of pokemon for gen 10. Emerald and Platinum would be a good paired release. I get by with just buying one version of the games, since it's pretty much like a pallet swap, so whatever. But a paired release of Em & Pl would be basically REQUIRED to buy both. and doing that, speaking of HG SS, maybe releasing a Jhoto/Kanto and Kanto/Jhoto version could be cool. take red and gold pokemon sets, start from Kanto and go on to Jhoto. Then do Blue and Silver to do Jhoto on to Kanto. So the game cart version choice is home region, not just baddie's hat flavour.

  6. Black And White will always be my favorite, but Heart Gold and Soul Silver are undeniably the best in the series. I love Johto so much in those games, and Kanto is a nice bonus, that while boring to me, is still a ton of content.

  7. I genuinely don't like the johto games.

There are so many trash pokemon, the story is just Team Rocket being all: "Notice us Senpai!", the leveling curve is garbage, there aren't any good places to grind your team up so you have to hack in rare candies (because who is gonna waste hours grinding for Red), some of the characters aren't that memorable, some of the gym leaders don't even use gen 2 pokemon (like why not give Bugsy a Heracross, Falkner the Hoothoot line, Chuck a Hitmontop, Jasmine a Skarmory and Morty a Misdreavus), Cyndaquil's line literally has the same base stats as Charmander's line, you can find pokemon under level 30 south of Blackthorn and in the post game.

I've played through Heart Gold twice and i just can't seem to enjoy it at least a little. If you like these games, that's fine.
