Part 1: Secrets of the Golden Lineage and the Empyreans – Elden Ring Lore

Elden Ring.. Oh, Elden Ring.
So much lore to discover. So much speculation to do.
In the first part of my Elden Ring Lore series, I want to start with the basics: The Golden Lineage, the Royal Family of the Erdtree Capital, and propose some ideas regarding the Empyreans. Hope you enjoy!

  1. I think it's likely that Godrick was so weak because he was a descendent of Godfrey, not his direct child. Since he has the Godfrey Icon, Godefroy the Grafted was likely Godrick's actual father and Godfrey's son.

  2. Radagon and marika are two half’s of the same person kinda like a split personality but more extreme since they are the same person that’s why miqulla and malania are emperyens because they are born from one god also rennala isn’t actually a goddess so that’s why ranni is an emperyen also

  3. Good summary so far. I tend to agree with your definition of Empyrean. It's an individual with a connection to outer gods, likely created by the ancients inhabiting the Eternal Cities in order to communicate with the outer gods sending meteorites with all manner of extraterrestial creatures to earth. The Greater Will who previously established it's own rule over the mortal plain through the dragons (which (and all life on the planet) it likely created through (d)evolution and the elden beast) got very mad when it saw that the ancients were now capable of communicating with other outer gods like the fell god, whatever is behind the black flame, the moon entity and the three fingers and banished them underground, removing their access to the star sky (and thus the outer gods) and likely taking one of their Empyrean Marika. It then used Marika to wage war against the influences of the other outer gods on the mortal plain. Namely The Fire Giants and The Fell God, The Gloam Eyed Queen and whatever the Black Flame symbolizes, Caria and the Moon God and so and so forth.

  4. Mostly good summary but 2 thinks bug me. Godwyn is not the first to die and not the Prince of death, since two demigods died at the same time (him and Ranni), denying him from completing the cursemark of death. Also I do not think that Ranni is an Emyrean. I never heard it outright stated, at least I don't remember. She is merely walking the path of an Empyrean by creating a new order. Following in their footsteps rather than being an actual one. Also I don't believe Radamarika were made one just simply by how the revelation was presented. If they were merely merged than why would that be something to hide? The way it is presented is that Radagon was Marika all along and thus all actions of him can be directly contributed to her. Otherwise I don't understand why the great Goldmask would have trouble understanding with it. Usually great events of the gods have great influence on the world, like the death of a demigoold. And the merging of Marika and Radagon would be such an event, but nothing happened of that scale.

  5. I see lots of people insisting that Godrick is a son of Marika and Godfrey, but barring a major translation error, the game explicitly tells you this isn’t the case. It plainly explains that Godrick is a distant relation of the Golden Lineage, which is why he was weak and felt the need to graft himself to try and live up to the standards of his ancestors.

  6. Agreed with everything here. My only question is: what about that amber egg? Like, it's established that the Great Runes went to Marika's offspring (step-offspring or otherwise) and in/after the Rennala fight its shown that the rune you get isn't from her but from the egg. So….is it a child that Rennala and Radagon had together before he left? Is it a child between Marika and Radagon he left on Rennala's doorstep? Idk, one of the many unanswered questions

  7. Excellent lore video. You manage to get a lot of detail out there, most of this stuff is new to me.

I think Radagon was his own person but once he got married and fused they begot children asexually like a divine hermaphrodite. Hence the phrasing of being born by one god.

  8. I think Radogan is Marikas mimic, similar to how the player can make a mimic. She learned the secrets of mimicry from Nokstella, and her children (Morgott/Mogh) learned it, explaining how they have two copies with different names. Radogan eventually had his own personality, but is still Marika.

"This spirit takes the form of the summoner to fight alongside
them, but its mimicry does not extend to imitating the
    summoner's will.
Mimic tears are the result of an attempt by the Eternal City to
    forge a lord."

  9. Very solid video. I think that to even begin to understand the lore. We need to really try to write down what was grr martins design document for this game and good place to start is relations of characters like done here. Maybe someday I will understand why i am working for gold order but actually just killing all these intersting people lol.
