On the dyno with the MK8 Golf R AWD turbo – Modified by UGP | fullBOOST

The eighth generation Volkswagen Golf R has just landed in Australia. European vehicle specialist Underground Performance were quick to jump on one. Weโ€™ve covered some of their previous Golfโ€™s through their R&D phase and this car will be no different. With a bump up in power over the outgoing Mk7.5 we were keen to see what the new Mk8 AWD Golf R puts out in 100% factory stock form, and by the end of the day the team had already begun the modification process.

  1. After driving the previous version the one thing that put me off this car is the transmission. Hesitant off the line, jerky and holding gears when just trying to cruise. For goodness sake get rid of this terrible tranny and put a torque converter in it, just like they did with the regular golf range.

  3. Taking the shift lever away from the DSG cars was an egregiously bad decision from a driver's perspective in keeping the auto model fun to drive. I have a mk7 GTI with DSG and almost ALWAYS shift using my DSG lever. Now we can only use the plastic paddles which is no fun. The manual is too slow to shift so it's a lose, lose scenario.

  4. Each new version is better than the last ๐Ÿ™„ no shit. That's the whole point isn't it.. of course all they do is up the boost each time. It's still a weak 4 cylinder

  5. The most understanding R master ๐Ÿ™Œ
At least 800 miles of stretching and also a beefy oily tire bigger size would help the car age better and won't start squeeze noises here & there 245 45 19 will obsorb the bumps and Volkswagen need it. Continental more better than Michelin and avoid pirelli at all costs. Hankook is better than pirelli, Dunlop nit bad
But Continental oil does everything better and more comfortable even on stage 3 R

  6. Iโ€™m sorry I drove in the new R and the interior is a massive downgrade in quality compared to the previous model the quality feels like base level Corolla. Audi S3 is the choice once they give it the same diff.

  7. Are VW motor engineers sworn to secrecy that they can't be asked for information? It would be helpful to know the difference between current and previous motors.
