  2. Ehhhh, I don't think earthbound really has a lock on the 16 bit RPG bobblehead style, especially given pre ffvi final fantasies

    Also I feel like part of what makes palworld get attention as a pokemon like/lite is how blatantly ripped off the designs can be even with "nothing is fully original" standards

  9. I am in the same boat as John on PalWorld. Let people have their fun… but I don't care. It is one part that I don't need a morbid take on Pokémon in my life, which is also why I'm not reading the manga… but I am also called Mr. Niche among friends for a reason: I genereally shy away from things that are too popular. Afterall, only dead fish go with the current.

  10. I'm the same as John regarding NPC dialogue. I will also go back and talk to them every time an event has passed in the area to see if they have new stuff to say. EarthBound is an exception though, but that's moreso because I don't care for its satirical nature. I want my games to take themselves serious, even if the premise is ludicruis, so to have an NPC say "Haha, I just farted"… no… get that shit away from me…

  11. If Trails of is everything that Lewis says it is, then maybe THAT's the new RPG series I should dive into. Now that I can no longer depend on good ol' FF to get my party management J-RPG fix, I have been looking around for a worthy series to fill that void. And I love games that pull a fast one on you, where the final boss isn't actually the final boss. Heck I pull that shit in my books all the time. Kinda like how Kojima always wanted to be a film director who instead ended up making movie-like videogames, I always wanted to make games but instead became a writer who tries to make my books as videogame-like as possible.

  13. Is Pokemon gonna be dethroned cause of that game? No, the franchise is more than just it's games nowadays. For better or worse.
    (this is coming after finding out that at one point… PKMN tried to make money off of an recently deceased artist's newspaper comic to replace them back in the early 2000s… talk about sociopathic.)

    But could that game prompt GF and Nintendo to actually step up their game and try to improve Pokemon more? Absolutely.
