Did you say you get lost in your "very simple freighter"? Maybe the reason you keep getting lost in it, is that isn't as accurate a description as you might think? lol. That desert you got the Emeril on was nice! Green sky goes great with the brown soil and cactus highlights. Your settlement boardwalk looks great too!

I am working on the pirate status too. The game seems to be confused tho. I says I can go 9 more points to get admiral and it says I have all the pirate alignment and should search for another incomplete mission to finish.
