Extending Suburban Services of Western Railways up to Dahanu Road, from the erstwhile endpoint Virar, was a game-changing decision for the millions of residents residing in the Localities of Dahanu, Palghar, Boisar, and surroundings.
There are numerous stories of how Dahanu Locals have significantly changed the lives of commuters over the past decade. The coming generation might see them as just another service, but the people who have seen the times when Dahanu Locals didn’t exist, know their true value.
This is one of those stories, of My father, Mr. Anil Raut, who traveled from Vangaon to Churchgate 6 days a week for more than 35yrs over his service period, until retirement. The times when the area was connected to Mumbai by just a few passenger services over the day. People like my dad have seen significant changes to this stretch over a period of time.
More such stories would be shared in the coming future, and many more would be created amongst us, linked to Dahanu Locals.

Before the start of the Dahanu local service, people used to have immense difficulties for commuting to Mumbai. The MEMU trains were more of a band aid solution, rather than an actual solution. Those services were slow and infrequent.
Now, due to the introduction of Dahanu -Virar/Churchgate Suburban services, the stress of the daily commute has reduced significantly. This is just a start, as the Virar – Dahanu Road quadrupling project will increase the frequency and speed of suburban trains in a big way. This will also help to speed up the intercity mail/express trains that ply on the Mumbai – Surat – Vadodara mainline. As the dedicated freight corridor is also being built, the resultant extra space can be used to increase the frequency of intercity trains.
In the end, I will like to agree that the Dahanu Suburban train services are certainly more than just mere service, they are an important part of this community.
