Mexico’s most WILD and REMOTE Island? (We're Falling in Love Here) Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 403

We’re falling in love here! We’ve seen some pretty crazy destinations during our 13 year trip around the world, but this has to be one of the most jaw droppingly beautiful places we’ve ever laid eyes on. During his expedition through the Sea of Cortez in 1940, John Steinbeck wrote of this magical part of the world “the very air here is miraculous, and outlines of reality change with the moment. The sky sucks up the land and disgorges it. A dream hangs over the whole region, a brooding kind of hallucination”. After several months of sailing through this incredible region, no spot has embodied his words more than our latest destination, Refugio. With it’s insane cactus dotted landscapes, rugged beaches littered with skulls, friendly locals, and topography that’s equally as stunning above and below the surface, Refugio showed us what it’s like to experience one of the world’s truly wild places. And to top it all off we had some pretty ideal sailing conditions to get there.

We arrive to this wild paradise to discover empty beaches littered with skeletons and skulls, curious and playful sea lions that welcomed us into their under water world, and the most insane views around every corner. Places like these are the reason why we choose to spend our lives at sea, and we hope you enjoy this very special part of the world with us.

  1. I'm jealous! I used to dive, but I now have a pacemaker so I can't dive anymore. I know that I can still snorkel, but I just came back from 2 weeks in Puerto Plate (Dominican Republic) and just swim once and didn't snorkel. I guess it's kind of denial. I hope time will let me realise that I should enjoy what I cans still do.

  2. Sierra looks like she'll be able to ditch the arm floats soon. I love the homemade davit on Basik. It looks like it was welded up from pieces of and old boom and mast. Pretty resourceful.

  3. Since bad odours, horrific smells seem to trouble you a lot, I have a hack for you. You are familiar with the product "Vicks Vapour Rub". The cream type. Well just put a dab inside each nosrril, just on the edge, et voila. Your sense of smell will be changed to something more pleasant.

  6. Man, my first time there the conditions were far from ideal. 35 knots up the whale canal, but whatever. When we dropped the hook it felt like we were at the edge of the world. Crazy winds and lightning storms, beasts and fish that belonged more than us

  7. Brain I wish you would shot some black and white pictures and some videos. When Sierra was making fun of you about the smells. That would of been a great black and white picture. When Sierra and mommy were on the beach together and you were up on the tower. Would of been a great picture in black and white.
