LIVE: ChatGPT founder Sam Altman testifies before Congress about AI. The head of the artificial intelligence company that makes ChatGPT will testify before Congress as lawmakers call for new rules to guide the rapid development of AI technology.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to speak at a Senate hearing Tuesday.
His San Francisco-based startup rocketed to public attention after its release late last year of ChatGPT, a free chatbot tool that answers questions with convincingly human-like responses.
What started out as a panic among educators about ChatGPT’s use to cheat on homework assignments has expanded to broader concerns about the ability of the latest crop of “generative AI” tools to mislead people, spread falsehoods , violate copyright protections and upend some jobs .

OMG! This is bad AI! Who do they think they are fooling!
Social media has largely made the human race inert as instead of venting en mass on the streets people are more at ease with making their anger and frustration heard on platforms like twitter whilst people like Elon musk suck them dry by promising FOS and liberation. Altman grins expressing concern whilst further raising AI’s potential and laughing all the way to the bank. Will he be the ultimate Oppenheimer realised? Only time will tell but I think he will be in terms of his technologies eventual destruction of our social and moral fabric. What I do know is that technology has been replacing jobs for some time now and AI will finish the job. We will all be on subsistence wages soon and Covid was just a compliance test for when that happens and yes we all passed the test with flying colours…

The threat from AI will never even come close to the threat government is to the masses who themselves are controlled by outside forces and yet another excuse to expand the government but the best part was the woman talking about misinformation I'll assume she means something like Russia Gate that was carried out by a whole range of officials and government departments and yet AI is the worry, lol
Government and legislators have to help change the competitive landscape. Today the valuation of a publicly traded company and their share price is measured almost exclusively by their EBITDA/earnings and liabilities/assets. In order to compete or survive, all businesses will do (within reason) whatever is necessary to further improve those metrics. If a company valuation also included metrics for sustainability, welfare, investment in society (employment) to name a few, think about how different the world we live in today would be. AI is a tremendous asset in the right hands, unfortunately the only real priority in the world today is money. It doesn't have to be that way. AI will only serve what we want it to, if we don't change our priorities then we can expect to see mass unemployment. Government exists to set priorities, so the real question to those in congress and elsewhere around the world, what is your appetite for change? The line of questioning and attitude in that room doesn't look a government that is prepared to change sadly.
