  2. Our Farnesy is a national treasure.. he does a soundcheck version of Zeppelin’s Black Dog which you just have to hear to believe, amongst so many others, Angels with his backup singer Lisa Edwards, Grenada with Anthony Warlow, Please Don’t Ask Me with Olivia Newton-John (both at The Main Event concert), When Something Is Wrong With My Baby (Barnesy duet), When The War is Over (Cold Chisel cover), Playing to Win with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Long Way to the Top (AC/DC cover), literally how much time do you have? We could reel off 48 hours’ worth at least! He’s a legend of our land and truly worth more reacts. Thanks for this one, Aussie music is well worth a listen.. you haven’t even touched the surface yet! 😁😎

  3. Thank you great reaction. Stunning arrangement no words to really do John or the song justice. Everyone else's comments sum John up really. The late John Lennon once said this is the way the song was intended to be done. And Queen asked John to be their frontman when Freddie passed away. Gethesmane is a great song by John from Jesus Superstar showing Johns Musical theatre background it is amazing.

  4. I have no idea how many times I have watched reaction videos to this performance, but it still always give me chills. Certainly I went to this series of concerts (but wouldn’t know if it was the filmed one or not). One of the few performers that you just knew you could relax, you were in safe hands and were in for a fantastic, inclusive, no holds barred belter from start to finish. Thanks for your reaction

  5. I was fortunate enough to have been at this show, and words cannot describe how awesome it was. John is a true entertainer, his interaction with the audience was always enjoyable, and the way he tortured his microphone stands is legendary. This song was performed at the end of a 2-3 hour show (although I don’t exactly recall the length as you tend to get carried away in the moment, and I was 11!). The reason he says “stay safe” at the end of the show is because a massive storm swept across Melbourne during the show and conditions outside the venue were somewhat hazardous.

Now about the whole John Lennon rumour that always rears its head in the comments section of these videos. Farnham released his version of this Beatles song only a few months before Lennon was fatally shot, and there is no offical record of him making any comments about Farnham’s version. What we do know is that Elton John, a friend of Lennon sent him a copy of Farnham’s version, but we don’t even know if Lennon even listened to it as he was at the time busy working on his own album.

What we do know is that during an interview years later, Paul McCartney said that John would have probably liked Farnham’s version because it is performed in a manner similar to how Lennon originally wanted to perform it. Lennon wanted to perform it as a slow song but the groups record label at the time wanted it to have a faster pace.

  6. Don't know if it's been mentioned before, but, 'Black Dog' by John is amazing. He sings this as a warm up song. Never done it on stage. Unfortunately there is only audio. But still, have a listen. I only found it recently.
Love to John in his recovery.💖

  7. This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol

A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also.

Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers.

John and Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years.

    Angels..

This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not here him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well..

    Please Don't Ask Me..

And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel.

  8. Lennons lyrics were originally lost on everyone due to his record exec's forcing him to speed it up into a Rock 'N' Roll song. Not many people really paid attention or noticed the dark lyrics and his pleas for help, to them it was just a nice Jazzy tune.
John brought out the emotion and everyone now heard the lyrics for what they really were. A desperate cry for help.
Lennon did get to hear this before he was killed, and was stunned by it and said this was how he originally planned to sing it. He saluted and recognised John for the amazing re recording as a Ballad, but was a little dark on the fact he didn't get to do it first himself.
Tina Turner also took a liking to Johns re writing of the song and did her own take with her own slowed down version. Slightly different again.
