Israel’s Netanyahu Acknowledges Pager Attack, Says He Sees ‘Eye-To-Eye’ With Trump On Iran | N18G
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted on Sunday that he had greenlighted a deadly attack targeting Hezbollah in September, in which thousands of handheld pagers or walkie-talkies exploded across Lebanon and parts of Syria. Netanyahu said at a weekly cabinet meeting that he wanted to launch the pager operation.
The pager explosion and the assassination of former Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah were carried out despite the opposition of some senior officials in the defense establishment and the political echelon in charge of them, Netanyahu said.
Israel has for the first time confirmed that it was behind the operation in September to detonate hundreds of pagers used by Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Israeli media on Sunday reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet: “The beeper operation and the elimination of (Hezbollah’s leader Hassan) Nasrallah were launched despite the opposition of senior officials in the security establishment and the political echelon in charge of them.”
