Invasives Strike Force Survey Workshop 2023- Part 1: Species ID

Would you like to take your invasive species identification skills to the next level? Do you want to help find the next problem invaders that threaten our region’s natural areas and parks? Watch this workshop to learn how!

Invasive species cause a multitude of problems in our region’s natural areas including making these habitats less suitable for native wildlife. This year, our Invasives Strike Force volunteers will be focused solely on emerging invasive species, or those that are not yet common/have only recently been introduced to our region. The earlier these emerging species are detected, the better chance we have of preventing them from becoming widespread. This required course helps Invasives Strike Force volunteers gain the skills necessary to identify beech leaf disease, spotted lanternfly, tree of heaven, black swallowwort and hemlock woolly adelgid. As trained volunteers, you will then conduct monitoring along assigned trail sections that are convenient to your own home and according to a schedule that works for you! Part 2 of this webinar series will focus on survey protocols and reporting procedures (view events at nynjtc.org/events). We will also be offering optional guided nature walks throughout the summer to build confidence and learn together (view events at nynjtc.org/events)!
