Crawler Canyon Presents: It's All Content #9, something like a time machine

This is 100% an instance where a Quickview doesn’t work. I don’t feel like I can give anything here a fair shake. But as has been said so many times before… it’s all content, baby. Circa 2008, the Losi Comp Crawler. Horizon bought Losi in 2000 and Axial started in 2005, so seeing a Losi crawler is a bit of a unicorn. Losi is far too serious for that now. Or whatever.

  1. It’s like an OG sporty. I run a Dlux asylum sporty on Capra axles. Stupid fun. Crazy capable. Love the all in performance stuff. Building a 5th dimension sucker punch right now on AR60s and all the Dlux goodies. I’ve been testing those plastic China Capra clone axles. Replaced all bearings because the stocks were poor quality. 4 packs threw them and they’ve been great. New bearings got all stub shaft/pinion slop out of them. The gears will have a chance to survive now lol. Amazing value at $70 a set after bearing replacements…

  2. I bought one of these as my first crawler. Too loud for the trails. Now it’s shelved. Got to look for the dog option, seems to bring it alive. Also have seen guys put Capra axles on it. Decisions, decisions. Love that you made a video on this truck, hope to see it more. Also I found an undersized new bright ram body for mine.

  3. Should call this Arnie, as it's a thing from the past envisioning how the future might look like…and it has that Terminator look without a body and with that red LED light from the receiver 😁

  4. 35:19 what's wrong with that passenger rear spring?
An other awesome episode! I really enjoyed this one.
I understand they don't do this axles/type of drag break any more, however, the geometry of that thing… I almost wonna start building something like this for my 'unused' Comp Bullies .
Looks like it kills lines different then we are used. I wonder if it's due to the weight balance? This thing looks 50/50, not?

  5. The HSP Pangolin (wich i have) is quite similar excepting the worm axles. The body mounts are horrible, after you roll the car 10 times the body is cracked in every corner, and what i do is running it on full droop, and put the body high enough to not hit the tires (the body is quite cutted anyway)

  6. Cant say ive seen one of those before but I only dug my RCs out in 2021 after a 30 year break and I didnt even know about crawlers till I started looking for RC stuff again. Only been a crawler fan myself since 2021 and have brought or built 5 so far.
Anyway, I have an FTX Ravine which is a very cheap £100 toy grade MOA SOA 4WS crawler which is surprisingly capable and even better after a few mods. In the US its called a Redcat Danchee Ridgerock. It has a similar chassis to that losi and has 90 deg of flex. I would think that the body from that would fit but ive seen different bodies on them as long as they are tucked front and rear and trimmed correctly or slighly smaller like a 12th scale shell. They look great with a VW beetle style shell.

  7. i had designed and made a few custom axle housings for those. Codyboy was another name in that hat. just recently i released a direct drive mini chassis for those axles. worm gears are fun to mess with.

id honestly leave that one as is. maybe change your wheels for some more knuckle weight. if your not going to compete with it. the stock chassis does just fine.

  8. My first crawler was a losi comp crawler. Went with an underground crawlers chassis and found some euro moa setup for it and man at that point it was unstoppable. Only rig I wish I still had

  9. I bet that small pinion gear is making All that noise, I went down to a 13t on my cr01 and it started making a racket and I double checked the mesh wasn't too tight….and I was thinking that you are running the motor a full speed because the gearing is so low which maybe causing your heat problem, I think it came with a 17.5t motor.

  10. Well if you ever want to try out the itty bitty 1/24th scale world, the Axial AX24 is basically a 4ws RTR of this style of rig, worm gears and all! If you're able to handle the adorable yet impractical M1.4 hardware and other small parts, I think it might be a fun one for you to mess around with.

  11. Bought the AX10 first, then the Comp Crawler and then my favorite the XR10, still have a new XR10 sitting with a Comp Crawler sitting as shelf queens. Unreal how different the new version of crawler are from back then! I love them all, old and new!
